Agree Carnell had played well, come to think of it even the small fella who was kicking bags of 5 towards seasons end, could easily replace some of our senior players.. his name evades me now

The small fella is Willy Wheeler E_E_A

...Carnell would be def worth a look - especially as a rookie spot...also claw, I've heard/red good things about Beau Wilkes - could be another worth a punt...

throwing up some other more "established" names, anyone see any value in a Ben Ross or Gavin Urqhart from North?  Setanta too old (and not really all that good)?  John McCarthy as a midfield addition/depth player?  Joel Houghton was pick 36 & a fair sized forward that kicked some bags of goals as a junior, is only 20 - any upside?  any of the Gold Coast delistings? is Ladson any value/too old?

any thoughts or any other blokes worth a look in?

I Remember now WP, it was Power. Little bloke had some BOG even when we had 8-10 RFC listed players running around for the burgs

Sam Power? Brother of Luke? Former AFL player de-listed by both Bulldogs & N0rt?

Would be massive pass for mine

Sorry WP what I was saying is that Carnell and Wheeler both played well in the burgs, But even Power showed more than some of our senior listed players. I would definetly not want him in our side but it was worth noting that he played better than our rfc listed players on more than one occasion.

to be honest i have always liked wilkes as a player had a very good yr at claremont and imo has psomething to offer.he would definately be sound insurance if rance went down.  the one i really like from claremont is tom lee. a quick agile 20yo 195cm
kpp.
was cut from adelaide and came home. word was he was just too immature when drafted.

houghton was one i wanted us to draft in 09.  i had him in a group of talls with astbury and shaw. he is a good mark lots of agility and a good motor for a big guy.he spent a bit of time as a mid as a junior and wasnt really looked upon as a kpp by most. dont know what went wrong at freo people i know from the club are a bit bemused by his axing. would not be surprised if they are not looking to now rookie him.

Would the Nth Lower be worth a look? His brother had a great year for Freeo. Worth having train to look if he can perform over the pre season.

I wouldn't want anyone from Coburg. They weren't a bottom 4  VFL side for nothing  :P. Guys like Carnell and Wheeler wouldn't make it at AFL level. Too short and small to begin with. The SANFL is a stronger league than the VFL anyway so I would look there first.

Pass.

Unless some semi-decent player with good skills has a falling out with his club and wants to leave (eg: Houli last year) then we should stick to building up our list via the draft. We've been down the path before of recruiting other clubs offcuts and all that shortcut does is get us to ninth and fills our list with more list cloggers  :scream.
