Key position prospects who will be our main man up forward for the next 10 years. He has a rare combination of size, power and talent. Said to be one of the best prospects to come out of the TAC Cup in some time.

Pick 2.  Stephen Coniglio (Swan Districts)
Height: 182cm
Weight: 76kg
A multi-sport star who has been touted as a future gun ever since his four-goal WAFL grand final in 2010. Ticks nearly all the boxes as a modern midfielder and will be ready to step in straight away. He'll fit in nicely alongside Scully, Ward and Palmer in the midfield.

Pick 3.  Dom Tyson (Oakleigh Chargers)
Height: 186cm
Weight: 82kg
A smooth midfielder whose only chink may be that he lacks a metre of pace. What he lacks though, he more than makes up for with the speed at which his brain works. He thinks a step ahead of most, and his ball skills are elite.

Pick 4. Matt Buntine (Dandenong Stingrays)
Height: 188cm
Weight: 83kg
Rock solid prospect who excels as a mid-sized defender but can also play through the midfield. Uses the ball well and reads the play well. He is an outstanding leader who will add to the Giants' crop of up-and-coming stars.

Pick 5. Chad Wingard (Sturt)
Height: 181cm
Weight: 68kg
Once considered a surefire top-three pick, Wingard's stock fell a touch after an injury-interrupted national carnival and some underwhelming test results. However, he boasts an elite left foot, plenty of class and has been destined for GWS for a long time.

Pick #6 Port Adelaide - Mitchell Grigg - Norwood 183cm 81kg D.O.B 02/01/1993

Port Adelaide to choose local boy, who is a genuine midfield prospect, the sort you can build a side around. He goes out and plays consistent footballer every week. Has been in excellent form for Norwood reserves this season getting BOG many times and racking up the touches, 25-30 most weeks, clearly a class above that level. Grigg is a dominant inside midfielder who wins his ball at will but can translate that to damaging outside play in a flash, especially when using his ripping left-boot, he can hoof it when required. Smart player and plays the game above the shoulders...thinks things through and doesn't panic, picks the first option most times but he always seems to make the right decisions. Port need someone who can make any decision...so he's a good start. Ready to play...he's a workhorse but with a bit of hurt factor unlike most inside players. Can see him translating to a long term 250+ AFL gamer if injuries of course don't hamper his future.bit off still. So no point picking on needs so it is best available.

Pick 7. Will Hoskin-Elliott (Western Jets)
Height: 182cm
Weight: 73kg
Hoskin-Elliott has all the attributes coaches love in a footballer; he wins his own ball, uses both sides of his body as required, keeps his feet and is a one touch player. That combination is a sought after one which is because players like this rarely turn the ball over.

Adam Tomilnson
HT: 192cm
WT: 85Kg

Strong overhead and a good kick and his results at the Draft Combine show this. Finished in the top 15 in the following 3km time trial (equal 7th), beep test (equal 10th) and kicking assessement (83% efficiency). Lions need a future KPP and we believe Adam can cover this for us

Pick 9. Elliott Kavanagh (Western Jets)
Height: 187cm
Weight: 78kg

Elliot Kavanagh is a highly rated young midfielder who we have seen very little of this year. Despite his absence from key games, Kavanagh fortunately has already shown us enough over his junior football career to get drafted and he has enough time left in the year to impress and push for a top 10 pick.

Kavanagh is one of the more complete midfielders in this draft. He uses the football well, has great decision making, has pace, works hard and can win his own football when required. If he hadn’t of spent much of this year injured I suspect he would have been taken with one of our first 5 picks.

Pick 10. Liam Sumner (Sandringham Dragons)
Height: 182cm
Weight: 70kg

He is an outside, ball carrying midfielder who oozes x-factor. Sumner is highly rated for his run and carry; he’s the sort of player who hurts you with every single possession he gets by running his full measure and using his great foot skills to deliver the ball effectively.
The main knock on Sumner is that we haven’t seen an ability to play ‘inside’ football and win his own ball. As a consequence he rarely racks up big numbers in terms of possessions.

Pick 11. Billy Longer (Northern Knights)
Height: 202cm
Weight: 95kg

Want to take a ruckman with one of our early picks, and Billy Longer is the most talked about draft prospect when it comes to ruckmen. The 202cm big man has really improved his game over the last 12 months from a good ruckman who can rotate forward to a dominant ruckman, who hits second and third efforts hard and can kick goals.

Longer is quick over the ground for a big man and doesn’t struggle at ground level which means he has been compared to Dean Cox by a few onlookers, whilst there is merit in the comparison, Longer will need to improve his endurance to reach that standard.

Describe as a natural leader (he captained the Geelong Falcons in 2011) an in under ball winner, who makes good decisions and is a great kick. With the loss of Luke Power we need someone who can develop into that sort of role, we believe that Taylor can do that

Pick 13. Toby Greene (Oakleigh Chargers)
Height: 180cm
Weight: 78kg

Greene’s combination of toughness and decision making make him a very dangerous midfield player as he can win the ball himself or take on the role of an outside midfielder depending on what the team needs.

Clearances are perhaps one of the most important things in modern football and they are something you either know how to win or you don’t… Greene does and regularly won that stat at the championships.

Pick 14. Todd Elton (Dandenong Stingrays)
Height: 197cm
Weight: 90kg

Todd Elton is an AIS-AFL Academy graduate from Vic Country and is exactly the sort of forward/second ruckmen clubs look for at the moment and an absolute steal at 14.

Elton is capable of playing the key forward role as a marking player or Nick Riewoldt style with superior endurance/work rate to his opponents. Like Riewoldt though it would be nice to see him convert a greater percentage of his opportunities.

When playing on the ball Elton really adds something to the midfield. At ground level he’ll compete and tackle whilst also using his speed and endurance to collect plenty of disposals. In the actual ruck contests his size and leap allow him to compete well.

agree...and some of the "experts" (or so called) don't have him going til later in the draft - be happy having a good look at him if he slid as far as our first pick (depending on who else is avail  at the time)...

Selection #15 Devon Smith (Geelong Falcons)



DOB: 20/05/93
Height:175cm
Weight: 73Kg

Although only 175cm this Kid is very good and delighted that we were able to pick him up at #15. Initially will play as a small forward as he is a genuine goal kicker but once he develops more bulk (already has good core strength) he will be a good inside midfielder for us. He is lightning fast, has excellent agility and good all round disposal skills. He has great awareness through traffic and in round 2 of the under 18 champs he kicked 6 goals and had 27 disposals.

At the Combine he was top 10 in Beep Test/shuttle run (10th) Clean hands (9th) 30m repeat sprints (3rd) and standing vertical jump (7th).

He's been likened to Brent Harvey and Gary Ablett Jr.
