We may still be another coach according to twitter ....

"RT“@Richmond_FC: we've since hired Ross Smith and Mark Williams as Assistant Coaches” /Yep, I know. So can you confirm footy dept finalized?"

Richmond FC:
"I cannot, they're still looking into the possibility of adding another coach."

I actually thought to myself when I was replying, how can I answer this delicately so it doesn't get quoted on OER.

Fail.

Won't it be 4?
We had 2 last year and are looking to expand it to 4 development coaches and both the development coaches left last year so that is replacing 2 and adding 2.

Former Carlton and Port Adelaide player Nick Stevens has been appointed as the new coach of the Gippsland Power.

Last season he was one of the midfield coach's for the improving Richmond Football Club in the AFL.

AFL clubs are moving towards not only having line coaches but also development coaches per line.

                     Senior coach: Damien Hardwick

Defensive team structure coach: Ross Smith                 Opposition Analyst: Wayne Campbell

?: Mark Williams  (not sure what his specific role is?)

Backs:         Line coach: Justin Leppitsch         Development coach:  ?

Midfielders:  Line coach: Brendon Lade            Development coach:  ?

Forwards:    Line coach: Danny Daly               Development coach:  ?

Ruck coach:  Brendon Lade (doubling up)

If you think about the missing coaches and you assume an average salary of 100K and the overhead is about the same, thats around 600-800K extra we ought to be spending on the coaching dept maybe more.  Its so much about the off field spend these days.

For example Collingwoods football spend in 2009 was $17M and 2010 $19M, their total revenue was $62M and $75M in 09 and 10 respectively

Some of that was extra trips to Arizona, I imagine they have a full list of coaches, I heard through the grapevine so no idea how reliable this is that they have a gym that is a hyperbaric chamber, where they can lower or raise oxygen levels.

Our revenues were $31M/2009 and $33M/2010.  I couldn't see a football dept expenses line in the annual report but I think its safe to assume we have similar ratios of football dept spending to revenues.

Which is why I'm so impressed with Brendon Gale, he has hit the nail on the head with

1) Get a large membership
2) More members= more sponsorship
3) More sponsorship = bigger off field spend
4) bigger football spend = better results

I hope we have someone studying Geelong too, I suspect they have identified some pretty important undervalued characteristics at Geelong, that other teams have yet to focus on because they don't bottom out and yet they perform consistently well.

RFCO's next response  ;D

"It's clear that the Committee has agreed that the new policy is really an excellent plan. But in view of some of the doubts being expressed, may I propose that I recall that after careful consideration, the considered view of the Committee was that, while they considered that the proposal met with broad approval in principle, that some of the principles were sufficiently fundamental in principle, and some of the considerations so complex and finely balanced in practice that in principle it was proposed that the sensible and prudent practice would be to submit the proposal for more detailed consideration, laying stress on the essential continuity of the new proposal with existing principles, the principle of the principal arguments which the proposal proposes and propounds for their approval. In principle."

Stuff the coach, can we get a new Football Manager?
Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?

And their bombs and their guns.
