DRAFT NEEDS

Class, class, class. The Tigers have built up plenty of big bodies in defence, and will look better if they can get Astbury and Grimes going at the same time next year, but their back line still needs a bit of work. In particular, I'd be looking for players who can thread the ball through traffic when moving out of defence, hit targets and help the Tigers get the ball into the hands of their most damaging onballers. The good news is that there should be some genuine options available in this area come their first pick: Sam Docherty, Brandon Ellis and Brad McKenzie are three worth looking at. McKenzie is a smart, quite versatile player who might end up pushing through the midfield in time. He could even be on the table when they come to their second pick. A pacy midfielder could complement Cotchin, Martin, Conca, Helbig and others, and it could also be worth getting in another classy half-forward. Morton's gone, Taylor didn't work out, and without them the Tigers don't really have any true lead-up options, someone who can push up, cover ground and help them get the ball through to Riewoldt. With Vickery starting to emerge as Jack's sidekick and a powerful presence deep in the forward line, someone who could do that would make their forward line that little bit tougher to match up on. There aren't many of this type of player around, but Daniel Markworth may be available at their first pick and the taller Todd Elton is another player they've put some work into.

We have been linked to Todd Elton a fair bit and he sounds like a super talent .My bet I would say pick 26 it could be.

Emma is spot on. We severely lack class outside our top half-dozen or so.

Her midfield depth chart is fair way off. Foley>Jackson and currently Conca. Quite bizarre really.

On another note I think Emma Quayle is smoking hot.

Emma is in regular contact with recruiters and clubs and what they are up to so she often has more idea than other journos who just guess and make stuff up.

Anyway she has us linked to Docherty, Markworth and McKenzie in her top 25 today....

9. Sam Docherty

(Gippsland Power, 18, 185cm, 83kg)

If you make smart decisions and can kick, you're a chance. Docherty does that, and has a bit of pace to go with it. He won't be able to get started for a while - he needs minor hip surgery - but I could see him taking kick-in duties for an AFL club next year. It took him until the middle of the year to force people to take notice of him but from there he kept nailing long targets, and was always aware of what was going on around him.

Who will pick him? The Lions met him last week, and he'll appeal to Richmond, the Western Bulldogs and particularly North Melbourne if he gets past them.

14. Daniel Markworth

(Calder Cannons, 19, 191cm, 78kg)

Markworth is a hard one to slot into a positional group, but will most likely start out as a lead-up forward who could wind up in the midfield. He's very quick, has endurance and is always on his toes, bouncing around. He gets involved in such varied ways - a spin out of a pack, quick give, run-of-the-mill set shot. He's not yet consistent and can do the odd crazy thing, but has huge scope.

Who will pick him? Richmond at 15 and Freo are big chances, and every club from there would need to take a look.

23. Brad McKenzie

(Sturt, 18, 188cm, 76kg)

McKenzie is one of the smartest, switched-on players in this year's draft. He's also perhaps the best kick. He finds room across half-back to pick his way through traffic, and also gets forward of centre, where he'll either hit a forward on the chest or use his agility to slip by someone and kick a goal. He creeps up on you, maybe because the things he does tend to bring those around him into the play rather than demand attention.

Who will pick him? Richmond may grab him early, should other options be gone and he's right in the mix for its second pick too.
