Who are our midfielders who can win their own ball and then provide the run and carry to get us through congestion?

I would suggest Cotch, Flossy, Conca and Jackson. Ellis doesn't seem to have the strength, like Lids, to win his own ball then force his way to the outside. Foley used to be an inside and outside player and showed glimpses of it in the first half but I'm not sure if he can run out a game any longer. Thomas is a pure ball winner. From what I have seen of miles he plays like a less polished version of Cotch. Titch is more outside than in but can be surprizingly good around the bounce.

If we are faced with an opposition who is using this rolling maul defense then our one dimensional midfielders like Grigg, Lids (yes, even Lids), Ellis and Thomas need to be rested to make way for our more two dimensional midfielders who can play man-on-man and force their way to the outside. Play Lids in Houli's place.

You're right Stripes. The Swans for example have these type of players in abundance and it is showing in they way they are performing. Kennedy, Jack, Parker, Hannebury, Bird and McVeigh
are all hard at it two dimensional types we so desperately need. At the moment we have one in Cotch and the rest are show ponies prancing around waiting to be fed.

Very true. I feel like Vlas will be this type of player in time but we need more.

Not sure if its been mentioned before but Ellis reminds me of a bobble head you have sitting on the dash of your car. Moves a lot but doesn't really go anywhere, always looks puffed out but seems lately to be simply in the wrong places as are most of our midfielders.

Be very interesting to see Ellis's running data in comparison to last season.
