FORMER Collingwood forward John McCarthy says he is confident of finding a home at Richmond in Tuesday's pre-season draft.
McCarthy has been training with the Tigers since being delisted by the Pies at the end of the season.
There have been whispers that Port Adelaide is also interested in the 22-year-old, but McCarthy said his preference was to stay in Melbourne.
The Power has its pick ahead of the Tigers in Tuesday's draft.
``What will be will be, but hopefully I end up at the Tigers,'' McCarthy told the Sunday Herald Sun.
``It's hard but hopefully I don't have to end up moving interstate. It would be a pretty big move for me and my girlfriend.
``I'd definitely prefer to stay at a Melbourne-based club.''
McCarthy visited Adelaide recently with his girlfriend, where they met Power officials.
``They seemed like a great club,'' McCarthy said. ``But at that stage I probably didn't realise the Tigers were as keen as they were.
``There was a bit of interest (from Port Adelaide) but . . . I want to end up at the Tigers.''
McCarthy said it was ultimately his own decision to leave the Pies at the end of this season after a frustrating year on the field.
``I said to my manager `I don't think I'm going to get the opportunities here at Collingwood that I'm after, so can we look somewhere else','' McCarthy said.
``We tried to do that during trade week but nothing could get finalised so it has come down to the pre-season draft. Hopefully it all works out.
``I'm just after an opportunity now and I know I'll need to take it and that I'm not just going to be handed games.''
McCarthy said he had spoken to Richmond coach Damien Hardwick about some potential roles he could fill at the Tigers, should he be picked up.
``I had a brief chat to him and they kind of see me being an agility player, especially with the sub rule coming in. I think they are looking for someone to run here, there and everywhere and I think I can be that player,'' McCarthy said.
``I'd spend a bit of time, or the majority of my time around the midfield/wing area, or help out up forward or down back if they need it.''
