Obviously Jack and Vickery are givens and, on form which Dimma has stated is all that matters on the selection table in 2012, Miller would have to be our third. Like others, I hope that Griffiths pushes Miller out but he has a long way to go and has showed very little in his short injury interrupted career.

It will be interesting going forward beyond this year. I was suggest that Miller will not be in the equation and in 3-5 years, depending on Maric's and Griffiths/Eltons form, Vickery may actually become our No. 1 ruckman. That would leave Griffiths/Elton to become our forward/second ruck option.

As always, looking forward into even the next season is a tough call let alone multiple years ahead but the possibility is there...

Miller won't be here after 2012 let alone in 3-5 years. Won't play round one either, IMO. Develop the blokes that are going to have a future.  Post & Griff are capable of taking some big marks that Miller can't take. Griff can kick the onion a country mile too. Miller isn't a match winner, so only play him if Griff is injured (which he probably will be most of the time) and Post/Elton just aren't up to playing round one.

Riewoldt & TV without a doubt.

Dont understand the reasons for the Miller love, particularly when he can only play as an elevated rookie.

If RFC is serious about development of additional key forwards, then the NAB has got to be a trial for the 3rd tall.

I'm tipping Griff as he has a pre-season under the belt, but who knows with those shoulders.

Riewoldt, vickery, griffiths. Post richo the forward line looks alright with 3 young talented talls that will grow together. All fairly  high draft picks.

It's nice to have Elton chf for coburg. Long term project player but perfect Back up. Also pleasing to allow the kid to play 2nds instead of rfc. Unlike ootbwra in the past.
Miller I understand the use of a older type but he has too many flaws. Hope by round 12 he will no longer figure at rfc.

I cannot split post or astbury for the 3rd tall defender role - chb. Joining rance and grimes in the backline.
So whoever fails in this duel is a faint chance at key forward, also.

I'd rather not see miller play for Richmond at all, mainly because that would mean one of the young forwards has stood up. If he plays ahead post most of the year then my guess would be bye bye posty at years end.

Why do other players need to prove themselves to get Miller's spot when Miller has proven to be a waste of space at AFL level?

I don't think Griff should be thrown to the wolves come round one, he has been injured for most of his career, hardly had any real game time, when he did he couldn't really perform because of the reasons I have mentioned. This is his first uninterrupted preseason and we are going in round one against a finals team (that I don't rate anyway), so IMO Griff just needs to start off at the burgers and see how he goes, unless of course if he stars in the NAB Cup or regional games.

Miller on the other hand, actually had a better year last year than most believe, that was even mentioned by the club. He is experienced and knows how to work a forward line to the benefit of the other forwards, he has had a better preseason this year than last, he has had a year with the club, he has the game experience and if he gets on a roll he could kick a bag.

IMO, going into round 1 we need that experience, like Tuck last year....MASSIVE MISTAKE leaving him out, ruined our season from then on. What we don't need is Griff copping a flogging and losing his confidence from round 1......... But hey that's my opinion.

I agree WAT. Miller is a team player and whilst he is no world beater, he performs his supporting cast role well and as instructed by the coach. As I said earlier in this thread, I expect him to be eventually replaced once someone steps up. He's a bit like the space saver spare wheel you see in most modern cars. Will get you from a to b reliably at a moderate speed, but is designed to be just a short term replacement until you get a new Tyre.

Agree tiga and that spare tyre will hopefully be Griff.

Before Miller is replaced the other young fellows need to learn their individual craft and how to work as part of a forward team structure. Players such as Griff may have Miller well and truly cover with potential talent but Miller has the runs on the board at present. Individually many of our young tall forwards may be able to outplay Miller already but in terms of creating goals for the team, they need to learn how to do this as well as the experienced campaigner and then they can claim his spot.

We all know Miller is a bandaid fix but he brings far more to the table than many on here suggest. He is a leader and he is teaching the others how to be better forwards. It's no use getting rid of a player until someone is outperforming them.
