Our tackling (or lack of it)
« on: March 28, 2005, 05:53:09 AM »
Over the past 10 years we've gone from one of best tackling sides to the worst IMO.

I realise our youngsters don't yet have the physical stength and development so fair enough at this stage if they get brushed aside. But are our blokes the only ones who don't understand that you watch your opponents hips as the hips can only move in the direction the player intends to go. Learnt that playing Soccer.

Also we stand-off and correl an opponent rather than go in and tackle them because we're too afraid they're going to get by us.

Must admit we looked awfully puny compared to the cats. They did the footy equivalent of kicking sand in our faces all day.

Basically comes from the fact that our older blokes are all rather soft and don't lead the way. Can't expect kids to be holding all their tackles down but the older blokes don't seem to have proper tackling technique or the intensity required to put opposition players on their arrses.

That's true X but there were times when so many times Geelong players just brushed off Richmond players. I lost count of the number of mistackles! I remember Enright in our forward line surrounded by 3 Tigers and he just ran through and around them without hardly a finger laid on him  ???.
