Maric - My choice would be Maric for the simple fact we have been taking it up the rear in ruck contests for years and never giving our midfielders a chance to compete in stoppages. A competitive ruckman would do wonders for our cause.

Lids - I think Lids switch to the middle could potentially have a huge impact on our success. With Cotch the number one target for opposition coaches with their taggers and Dusty also stepping up last year, Lids may get more freedom in this role than he ever gained in the past. With the ball in his hands there is no other player in the team that can be more damaging.

A few honorbale mentions would be Grimes and Morris - we need a strong consistent backline and having a player who can shut down the tall, mobile forwards with Grimes plus a nuggety small to stop the goal sneaks who have always been a weakness of ours, would do us wonders.

I went for Maric and Grimes.  Maric for the same reasons as Stripes and Grimes because I think that a defence with 2 competitive key defenders (I'm including Rance as our other) playing well for the whole season will make it much harder for opposition teams to score against us.  These 2 stepping up will address the 2 biggest weaknesses in our side.

I've said Martin, If he learns to deal with the attention and still break games apart he can make a big impact.
Then I went with other for Batchelor.  If he improves and turns into the great defender he promises to be then our back line will improve and that will be the key.

Honorable mentions to Post, Grimes and Rance.  Good defense is key.

Obviously Lids in the middle and Maric in the ruck. I'd say the next 2 after that are Ellis and Derrickx. Ellis looks like a ready made midfielder who can also play in defence and up forward. I reckon he can almost do what Martin was doing in his first year. Derrickx can really form a dangerous forward line taking the occasional mark and kicking the odd goal. He just needs to be involved in a handfull of plays to contribute. With 2 twin towers with alot of pace and mobility, Vickery and Derrickx could be terrorising oppositions while Reiwoldt runs wild. Our midfield and forward line will be scary soon. The defence will get better too with Post, Grimes and Batchelor improving with each game

Maric - because I reckon we have more chance of getting first use at clearances with him there

Jack - because hopefully this year when he is playing e\he will be fully fit  ;D

Vickery - May end up being our no1 ruck as well as having an impact forward. Crucial to our success he has a good year.

Conca - He goes to another level and our midfield goes from being very good to star quality.

I know it is slightly off the question but my "players" are:-

1. Hardwick - in the final year of contract, the way he conducts himself on and off field in the first 12 rounds, particularly in the tough start to the season will define him and the playing group. The media love a good Tiger blood bath and will zero in on Hardwick from round 1. How he handles it will be an influencing factor in our playing groups historically fragile mind set
2. It isn't any 1 player but those 16-22 who play on game day. They are basically poo players who always seem to chime in when we have big wins but completely go missing when the heat is turned up in a game - particularly against top 4 teams. It is the complete lack of contribution from them which irks me - not so much the lack of ball gathering, poor decision making when they have the ball or turnovers under no or little pressure but what they DON'T do when they don't have the ball - the lack of tackling, shepards, blocking to help get our match winners gain possession or general lack of run and intensity that really poos me. Let's use Matt White as an example - but to be fair you could name up to 15-20 players on our list who could be in the team at any given time who let the team down.
It's that simple Spud

;D

Chimp and Lids. Chimp is amazing and Lids will have a ripper year. Those two having great years in the guts = a poo load of goals for Jacky Riewoldt & Ty Vickery. poo load of goals for Vickery and Riewoldt = a good Tigers outfit.

Martin and Deledio, IF Deledio is played in the centre all year.
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

While I agree with that too, if big Maric becomes our base line in Ruck ability instead of Angus (cos like you said Magic, Vickery is at another level already), that is decent step up to have some ball delivered to mids instead of them having to scrap for it.

If little Maric gets off the rookie list, he could be a surprise packet - has some serious ability as his package.
