AFL stays put on rules

THE AFL has announced it will not implement any new rules for the 2012 premiership season, but a decision on the use of video replay technology is still pending.

Adrian Anderson, the AFL general manager of football operations, briefed the media on Friday and said the Laws of the Game Committee was keen to further monitor trends in the game after significant changes made before last year's season.

"We want a year of consolidation," Anderson said from AFL House.

"The sub rule was a significant change last year and the feedback has been really good about that.

"We had great footy last year, it was fairer when you lose a player to injury and the injury results were encouraging, so we're letting things settle for a year and looking closely at the effect of the sub rule.

"Last year was one of the best ever with a great finals series … the game speaks for itself, it's in great shape. What the laws committee and the [AFL] Commission has done in terms of [the rules] it has approved over the last five or six years has been an important part of making sure our great game remains the greatest game on earth."

A decision on the use of video replay technology assistance for goal umpires is expected by the end of next week.

The committee, chaired by Anderson, also includes Joel Bowden, Kevin Bartlett, Leigh Matthews, Luke Power, Matthew Pavlich, Rowan Sawers and Michael Sexton.

Thanks for that I wasn't sure. I think the rule helps Ivan from what I've saw.

Certainly helped Gus because he didn't have to watch the man, was forced to watch the bloody ball for a change  ;D

Ivan Maric (I reckon) is smart enough to adapt to rule changes

...and hes not the only ruckman to do it.
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."
