McGuane  ;D >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>  :pray

Vickery is the most important IMV, Has to backup his great work from last year. It will take preasure off our forwards & will add worry for the opposition. As l stated some years back, Vickery should have been thrusted up forward to create problems while we were developing & most importantly, him being developed which Hardwick done. Now he is feared & very important to keeping the preasure & the ball in our forward half while it will take another 2 seasons to build the backline & take us to Premiership glory  ;D  :thumbsup

The monkey has spoken our year is 2014.

In a team game the most important player can vary from week to week. It could be the one doing the 1%ers, the one who inspires people most, the one who the club revolves around, the one who gets 2 possessions but shuts down an opposition player, the one who gets the most tackles, the one who puts his head over the ball, the one who supports his team mates the most, the one who is breaking into the team, the one who trains the hardest, the one who you will go to war for.
Sure the question could have been who is our best player? But who is our most important player? Only someone from the team could possibly answer that question./

Is anyone still uncertain as to Cotchin's importance?

Until the usual suspects stop getting a free ride it doesn't matter who is our most important, you need contribution from 22 not 18 or 19

Still believe Maric is our most important player in 2012. He's no where near as talented but his importance was underlined last night when he went off and Vickery went into the ruck. Vickery had an off night as is a good second ruck but we were 6 points out of it when Maric went off and suddenly Carlton kicked away with two quick center clearances.

Maric makes players like Cotch look good at stoppages.

Maric is an upgrade on Graham but let's not get carried away here.

Yep. Stripes, that is the most disgusting thing I have ever read. The Chimp makes himself look good. He could look good with Cain Ackland as our ruckman. Maric is handy but he's not going to turn our midfielders into guns @ stoppages. Either they have the ability or they don't. St Kilda's midfielders looked good under Grant Thomas and they had FA ruckman at that club

No but had Vickery played as we know he can, we finish 5 goals closer.
His versatility is crucial
It's that simple Spud

Sorry missed this post. Yes Maric does make our midfielders look better. Maric doesn't make Cotchin or any of our midfielders better players but he gets the ball into their hands more often which allows them generate more offensive play. Conversely, with a ruckman like Gus, our midfielders (including Cotch) were forced to be more defensive.

I wouldn't swap Cotchin, Martin, Lids or probably half a dozen other players on our list for the big mullet but in terms of importance Maric is our front line in every battle. If he doesn't get his hands to it, or at least stop the opposition ruckman from getting their hands to it, we are always on the backfoot.

Just my opinion as always of course  ;D

What's people thoughts now?  :huh

IMHO If Cotch went down during the season it would make life difficult but we now have the depth to cover him in that role (not to the same standard of course) but if the Mullet went down we could kiss our season goodbye. Big Ivan is now irreplaceable and the biggest difference to our improvement this year.

Still the Chimp followed by Lids. Would not make finals if one of them were injured. Maric would be a big loss but we've won games with Graham before.
