The Age footy liftout - Richmond to finish 12th-14th
« on: March 21, 2012, 10:14:55 PM »
Here's Walls, Lyon and Lloyd's predictions for us in 2012 ...

EXPERTS' VERDICT: RICHMOND

Robert Walls - 13th
The Tigers are a young middle-of-the-road team that can't be taken seriously until they beat some class sides. Last year they didn't beat any of the top six teams. They conceded 108 points a game - only Port Adelaide and Gold Coast performed worse in defence last season. With a developing forward line led by the exciting Riewoldt, and an improving midfield inspired by Cotchin, it's the rucks and backline that have to improve if the Tigers are to be finalists for the first time in 11 seasons. Ruck giant Maric has been acquired from Adelaide to assist battling ruck pair Browne and Graham, and it is hoped injuries don't cruel key defenders as they did in 2011.

Garry Lyon - 12th
Another team that could push for a spot in the eight, but until the Tigers actually get there, they will remain a team that promises plenty but are yet to deliver. If Post and Astbury can emulate the feats of Vickery and Rance in recent years, and regularly influence the results of games, the Tigers may be closer to their first finals appearance in 10 years.

Matthew Lloyd - 12th
Richmond has the best young midfield in the AFL with Cotchin, Martin and Foley, and this year will add Deledio into the mix to make them formidable. I like the forward setup of Riewoldt, Vickery and Nahas, but the concern for Richmond is the lack of depth through the midfield and a suspect defence. The Tigers' key backs in Rance, Grimes and McGuane struggle to contain the monster forwards, and the running backs turn the ball over far too often. The Tigers are 12 months away from making the eight and have a horror first five rounds to start this season.

Doesn't look good for North none of them have put them in the top 8 and only Lloyd has tipped Essendon for the 8.
As others have tipped positions 6 to 12 could be very close and could even come down to a upset win here or there.

Love how the media are happy to hype us up and dump pressure on us, but none of them are game to put us in their top 8. Really, its not just these jerks, I think Caro and maybe a couple of others are the only ones that put us in there. So which is it holes? Are we ready or not?

This article reminds me of how good it's been all summer not having to once hear Robert Walls' or Garry Lyon's voices.
Push up!

I'm doing the first podcast of "Bound for Glory", a show made by me and some mates, this weekend (which will turn into a live radio show in a few weeks).  Our biggest guest is Rohan Connolly.  I'm definitely going to inquire as to why he has us 14th.

In all seriousness, 7-14 will probably contain sides like Syd, adel, wb, stk, melb, ess, nought and us - throw a blanket over most those sides, luck with injuries will play a big part.

But yeah agreed with Willy, they pump us up and try put external pressure on the club, but none of them put us in the 8 or even near it  :rollin

We must win at least 2 of the first 5 to be in the running. I'm tipping 3 wins: Carlton, Melbourne and West Coast. With defeats against Geelong and Collingwood.

Walls really must not rate any preseason form if he has Adelaide in his bottom four
