Just watched the replay of the Cats vs Shockers.  Funny how a couple of the Cat's mids can be in the back pocket to clear the ball and then in the forward pocket 30 secs later, time and time again, in the last quarter.  Bartel and Chappy lead the way. Pity that our mids can't learn from watching that effort.

I thought that was the critical difference between the Blooze and us.  Their mids, who aren't renown for it, were prepared to run both ways a lot harder than our guys were.

I never saw us and still don't see us making the finals. While our top end has improved, we are still too young and inexperienced and our depth across our list still isn't there. You would remember I told Craig Cameron that last year .

we could pee talk whether melb loss was worse than ours, facts where we lost to a side widely tipped to be Top 3 or 4 this year, whereas Melbourne....Put that asie, we cant afford to take anyone lightly, we need our A grade game ea week...and that should take care of 14 or so sides in the comp

no what i'm suggesting (originally) is that by deliberately creating a losing culture Melbourne now have a lot of work to undo that culture.

The question is ambiguous because you appear to be differentiating deliberate losing with tanking
If so, what is the difference, if not are you suggesting Carlton never tanked.

no if i had said tanking then the question is ambiguous.

Tanking by definition is to deliberately lose. It stems from boxing terminology to take a dive or more precisely to dive into the tank. A Tank being a term in the USA for a pool way back then. you could use use the term match fixing, but generally that is used when money is involved and tanking is used when draft picks are involved, again coming from the USA, but basically both refer to deliberately losing. The term tanking has also been used in politics in the USA , but still refers to candidates setting out to lose.

Many people who follow AFL refer to tanking as things like putting injured players in for surgery, trying players in different positions giving youngsters a game or two and playing bordeline players just so you have a last look at them before cutting, as tanking, but that is not what i am talking about

so the term tanking is ambiguous, as different people see it as having different reasons.

I deliberately have not used the term tanking in this particular discussion, for that reason.

I have only referred to deliberately losing games.

So the simple, unambiguous question remains, what year did Carlton deliberately lose games?
