Saints may trade a big name away (afl site)

ST KILDA coach Scott Watters hasn't ruled out trading a big-name player in his quest to guide the club to its next premiership.

Watters told Melbourne radio station SEN on Easter Monday that he didn’t expect an announcement to be made on the future of Brendon Goddard in the short term, insisting there was "no urgency" for either party to agree to terms.

However Watters, fresh from his first win as an AFL coach, declared that trading a star in exchange for top draft picks was a prospect the Saints might have to consider in the long-term interests of the club.

Watters basically admitting St Kilda's window has shut and they need to rebuild :yep.

The suns and GWS will be best placed to be able to afford to give up top draft picks.

Is Goddard able to move by free agency yet? If so Saint's can just let him know its okay to chase the money. They could get more picks by compensation than by trading.

He didnt rule it out, but the guys were stabbing him with questions from all over particularly Robbo.  ::)
He also let slip they are looking at a loose premiership window of 3-5 yrs, and thats what fuels this debate really...

Window shut for the Saints. Hardly surprising these comments from Watters.

They beat up on a poor Gold Coast. Nothing to write home about.

I still think they will win 8-10 games this year maybe even less knowing it is a supedraft.

I think the tanking question will raise its head this year and a club like St Kilda who are aware their premiership window is shut may be willing to manipulate their squads and then try and offload a superstar to get a few picks at the high end of the draft.
