Wayne Carey: Richmond has it all on the line Matt Windley
From: Herald Sun
April 13, 2012 NORTH Melbourne great Wayne Carey says it is Richmond, and not Melbourne, who has the most to lose when the two sides clash at the MCG tomorrow afternoon.
Both teams are winless going in to the Round 3 encounter, with the Demons particularly disappointing in their opening two matches.
But Carey said the blowtorch would turn to Punt Rd should the Tigers have their colours lowered tomorrow.
“I think the pressure is really on Richmond, more so than Melbourne,” Carey said.
“Melbourne have been bad, not good at all, but in terms of these two clubs and where we thought they were at before the season started, everyone was saying Richmond could play finals footy and that type of stuff.
“So if they lose, they’re right under the pump.”
And Carey, speaking on The Game Plan, took a light-hearted jibe at Tigers forward Jack Riewoldt, who has kicked four goals in the first two games of the year.
“If Denis Pagan was the coach of this bloke - and I’ve met Jack, he’s a lovely bloke and I think he’s a terrific footballer - he’d say `Jack, don’t worry about getting your hair cut like a goose, get short back and sides and go out there and play some footy’. That’s what Denis Pagan would say.
“And Damien Hardwick was coached by Denis Pagan and I’m tipping it’s in the back of his head and he wants to say it, but probably these new-age sensitive guys don’t do it any more."
