Development coach Greg Mellor summary of how each Richmond-listed player performed at Coburg over the weekend...
Coburg Seniors
Todd Elton
A very positive performance. Seven marks - four of them contested - and two goals, is a good result from a key forward. He also worked up the ground to provide a target. An aspect of the game he is working on, is his ability to delay inside the forward-50 area, either through tackling, working the mark, or corraling.
Matt Arnot
Played only three quarters, given the fact he was an emergency for the Richmond team. Is learning to play the half-forward role and his first half was below standard, with both his ability to find the ball and correctly position at stoppages. His third quarter was much better, with nine disposals generated from correct positioning and an increased work rate.
Brett O’Hanlon
Returned to the senior Coburg side after starring the previous week in the Development team. Had limited impact in the first half, although, defensively, he applied a couple of good tackles. Won more of the football in the second half and kicked a nice, running goal from outside 50 metres.
Jeromey Webberley
Has been ultra-consistent over the first few rounds of the season and constantly knocking on the door for an AFL game. That said, he didn’t have quite the same impact as he had in recent weeks, despite collecting 25 possessions.
Addam Maric
Was beaten by his opponent and, as a result, struggled to have an influence on the game. Is such as good user of the ball and his ability to find space makes him an important player for Coburg. He is working hard on improving the defensive side of his game, so it was good to see him record several tackles.
Ben Darrou
Another impressive performance. Some of his decisions under pressure, particularly with his kicking, were terrific. Defensively, he did a good job and beat his opponent. He is starting to realise just how big he is and use his strength.
Piva Wright
Continues to improve each week and is developing into a very solid VFL defender. Made some really strong spoils, though there were times when he was the drop-off, so he could have marked the ball.
Ben Griffiths
Didn’t have much of an impact on the game in the first half. The team’s defensive set-ups weren’t great, so that didn’t allow the tall defenders to be used on the spread. Hurt his knee in the third quarter, but it doesn’t appear to be too serious.
Matt White
Had a quiet first quarter and, uncharacteristically, was pushed off the ball a couple of times. Improved his output from that point on, finishing with nine clearances - eight of them after quarter-time.
Angus Graham
Again was dominant with his ruckwork, amassing 63 hit-outs. Repeatedly gave the team’s ‘mids’ first opportunity. While his game was solid, he didn’t have his usual impact offensively.
Jayden Post
His performance was below his recent high standards. Offensively, he made some turn-overs that he rarely makes. Defensively, was sound, however.
Dan Connors
A steady improvement from the previous week. Took some strong, contested marks and put himself in good positions to win the ball. His return of 18 disposals, with six shots at goal, is a decent standard to build on.
Luke McGuane
While he did not get the same amount of ball as in the previous match, he again proved to be quite dangerous up forward when in a one-on-one position. Four goals from limited opportunities was a good result for him.
Tom Derricx
Had a mixed day. Took five really good marks in the wet, but wasn’t able to get into the game once the ball hit the ground. Spent some time in the ruck and is developing in this role.
Development
Andrew Browne
Played in the development team last weekend, not because he was out of form, but we wanted him to play a full game in the ruck. Dominated, collecting 23 possessions and amassing an amazing 97 hit-outs, which must be some sort of record. His work rate and effort was outstanding and he was able to get the workout we were after for him.
Steve Verrier
Started to work his way back into form. Has been working very hard on his kicking at training and, as he becomes more composed, he will be rewarded for this in games. Finished with 19 possessions and a terrific goal.
Gibson Turner
Looked a lot livelier and was able to kick a couple of really good goals. Being able to play more consistent football, for longer periods of time, is an area ‘Gibbo’ is focusing on. Is going in this week for surgery on his calf, to fix an annoying problem he has been carrying for a little while and should be back playing after the bye.
