Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of how the Richmond-listed players performed at Coburg on Saturday.
SeniorsTodd Elton
Had a much quieter game, playing mainly as a key forward. Didn’t have the same aerial influence he had the previous week, taking only two marks. Will be looking for greater impact next match.
Matt Arnot
A solid performance from Matt, who is continuing to learn the half-forward role and is getting better each week. It was particularly pleasing to see him kick a couple of goals, which is something he has been working on.
Brett O’Hanlon
His best game at VFL level. He picked up 20 possessions on the wing and demonstrated that he is quite comfortable at this level of football. The challenge now for him is to build on this performance and replicate it week in, week out.
Jeromey Webberley
Picked up plenty of the ball, as per usual, but wasn’t as effective as he has been previously this season. He continues to work hard and is waiting for a position to open up for him in the Richmond line-up.
Addam Maric
Was a solid contributor, collecting 18 possessions playing through the midfield. When he had the ball, he used it well and was an effective player. The team probably needed him to get a bit more of the ball and work harder defensively.
Ben Darrou
Was again quite reliable in his role as a key defender. There are a couple of technical areas he needs to work on to take his game to the next level, but, overall, we are very happy with his improvement and progress so far. An ankle injury hampered his performance and he came off at three-quarter time.
Piva Wright
Very similar to Ben Darrou in that he continues to improve each week and is now playing consistent VFL football. Had a satisfactory game on the weekend, showing real class when he had the ball. Is working on his defensive intensity and ability to close down his opponent.
Matt White
Had a good game. He worked and ran tirelessly, collecting 23 possessions through the midfield. His intensity at the ball and opponent was high and he finished with eight tackles.
Angus Graham
Was dominant in the ruck during the first half, before receiving a red card and being sent off the ground. His ruckwork continues to be very strong, but it was also pleasing to see him take seven marks during the time he was out there.
Jayden Post
Struggled a bit at full-back in the first half, but was moved to the other end of the ground after half-time and produced a scintillating burst of football. Finished with eight marks and six goals (five in the third quarter), and was responsible for getting Coburg back into the game and in a winning position.
Dan Connors
Had an outstanding first quarter, where he kicked three goals and should have had four. Looked set for a big one, but, unfortunately, his body seized up. Despite playing on for most of the game, his movement was restricted.
Luke McGuane
Unfortunately, he hurt his knee in the first quarter and took no further part in the game. We are waiting on scans, but hope it won’t be too serious.
Andrew Browne
Had a terrific game, following his rotation into the development team the previous round, in search of greater game time in the ruck. Finished with 23 possessions, 10 marks, 40 hit-outs and two goals. His work-rate was outstanding in his best senior VFL game for the year.
Development TeamTom Derickx
Had his turn spending time in the development team, to focus on developing his ruck skills. Improved as the game wore on and finished with 47 hit-outs, which was a very pleasing result from our perspective.
Steve Verrier
Produced his best performance of the year, collecting 29 possessions through the midfield and wing. The most pleasing aspect of his game was his ability to play to the structures he is being taught. We are looking for him to continue to improve and work his way into the senior VFL side in the near future.
