Grimes v Rance
« on: May 12, 2012, 09:47:58 PM »
An observation I have made over the last month is that I feel Rance is struggling slightly with his form and fumbling and his disposal has gone backwards slightly with too many up and under kicks whereas Grimes to me just looks crisper, more steady, more assured and wins more footy and his disposal is far more effective. Leaves his man regularly and gets to more contests than Rance and gets back to his man who has less impact. TO me right now he is our number one defender. :thumbsup

Not sure Tucker.

I am just glad both of them are in our team.  Compare it to McGawn aka the Broadbeach bullet and Thursty I think it is a huge upgrade.

Wow great posts the backline has been an absolute revelation this year, Grimes  should win the rising star if he can keep playing like this... That said Rance is a bloody great attacking defender who is just a machine Newy is killing it at the moment . Ellis aside  Jake Batchelor ( didn't think about Dea at the time )  would be our weakest link and that is one hell of a kid ...

Grimes was outstanding against Sydney. Really impressed by the way he plays. Hopefully he keeps it up

Just for the record boys what I wanted to say is this

I feel that Rance although still good has gone backwards in terms of his disposal, some of his kicking has been jittery and up and under the last few weeks and he has been caught out a few times compared to Grimes whom I feel is now our number 1 defender.

That is all. I still think Rance is a good player, competitive, brave, very strong and an integral part of our defence moving forward. I hope this clears things up. I know when he eradicates some of the bad habits in his game I have mentioned including the fumbling over the last few weeks the partnership between Alex and Dylan will continue to blossom.

I think bothe Rance and Grimes complement each other well, I wouldnt say Grimes has overtaken him as such but Rance defiantly dosent seem as composed as he has been, maybe a little more pressure from playing top side is exposing it a little more but i dont think  its to much to worry about. we now just need that one "Big" backman now to finish our back line off..........Whoa

Understand your point Tucker

IMV Rance has continued on from where he finished 2011; tough, courageous, backing himself in at all contest etc

Grimes however has clearly gone up another level and I reckon that has alot to do with the fact he is backing himself in at contests now.

The most obvious thing is he willing to take a mark where as last season it was spoil after spoile after spoil

This year he's prepared to mark = massive win for us

Despite a poor one last week where he constantly fumbled, Rance has been very good abd reliable this year. Grimes stands out as his skill level is superior to Tross'. Dylan's disposal efficiency was again up in our top 3. I think it was 96% which isn't a number you'd normally associate with a backman.

As someone said it's great we have both in our defence working together. Our backline has really improved beyond expectations as shown by our much lower scores against this year.  I would say the only opposition key forward that had the better of either Rance or Grimes this year was Hampson resting forward in round 1 whose height caused us problems.
