The Standard Has Been Set

the level set yesterday (and to a degree over the last few weeks) is now a standard that is non-negotiable...the attack on the ball/man/contest and willingness to compete cannot/should not be allowed to drop at all...yes we are a young side and yes there will probably be mental lapses but the effort applied (at all areas of the ground) is where the bar is now set - no excuses...

in the past it has been a handful of players who have let us down in this area, but yesterday all areas of the ground were fierce at the contest - all of the forwards tackled like men possessed (including Jack and TV), the midfield smashed them in hardball & clearances, the backline were committed and assisted each other (how good has Rance and Morris been?!) and for the majority of the day the "zone" around the ground was executed excellently...

anyone trying to break into the side needs to now reach this level before they are given a look in and anyone in the side who doesn't commit to this standard needs to be "rested" to be reminded of what is required to wear the yellow and black jumper...

must back it up now this week

I agree Daniel but these games our club finds the hardest to win.

I see alot of the Dogs game in 2001 in this game. I feel given our recent history with this animal slurry of a footy club if we can overcome the mental hurdle and beat them we will be on our way.

As I said this immediately reminds me of Dogs v Tigers 2001 grudge match at the Dome written all over it. We one narrowly last time and I think alot will want us to win this time also. This time it won't be token it will be real, I feel we can whether we do its up to the kids who to me seem hungry determined desperate and driven.

^ agree but the intensity and effort are still non-negotiables now...you can be drained/tired etc but you can still give the 100% effort that was demonstrated across the board yesterday...for the club to continue to move forward we must demand that the "4 quarter efforts" become the norm and not the exception...

^ good position to finally be in - some depth being shown...think Punchy Grimes and Batch would still slot back in nicely (obviously A Maric goes out for Batch)...funny that before the season our backline was considered such a weak link - still got Astbury on the road back too...Ross Smith should get massive plaudits along with the rest of the coaching staff....

the real positive is the reward for effort finally paid off...hopefully now the guys see that with some genuine gut busting endeavour the results can fall our way....

agree that this looms as a danger game & the possibility for let down after a high is huge - hopefully we've learnt from mistakes of the past and the fact we haven't beaten the Saints (who will also be wary of a deflation after the emotion of Lenny's game this week) is motivation....the main thing is that we don't rely on motivation to produce a 4 quarter effort high in intensity...

We play well at the dome now, suits our quick transition and defensive pressure. All depends on whose terms the game is played on, if we play on our terms and dictate our run and spread will destroy them, if they get on top and shut us down like they did Carlton, then we're in for a real battle. Like plenty have mentioned, the highlight of the game for me Milne vs Morris. As long as we don't let Lenny dominate the stoppages, our midfield should be too strong for them
