Tiger King facing five-match ban

THE wild enthusiasm about Richmond's improvement is set to be dented by more match review panel attention on firebrand Jake King.

Tigers forward King, who is saddled with 71.85 carry-over points and 50 per cent loading on any charge due to his poor disciplinary record, is likely to be suspended for tripping St Kilda's Stephen Milne with an outstretched leg. In isolation that should result in only a one-match ban, yet a negative view on an off-the-ball clash with Sean Dempster could sideline him for between three and five matches in total.

Dempster began to pursue a long kick into Richmond's forward line when King blocked his path and crunched the unsuspecting Saint with a hefty bump.

Even though there was seemingly no high contact to Dempster - a key factor in inflating penalties - the 50 per cent loading for King could increase his base penalty for rough conduct from 225 points to 337.5.

Should King be charged twice, it is likely his points would tally 529.35, or 397.01 after the guilty plea discount. If he fought both charges at the tribunal and lost he would not be available to return until the Tigers' round 17 clash with North Melbourne.

I thought he put his foot out, out of instinct, but then realised what he was doing and pulled it back. Did he make contact?

might as well contest it, has nothing to lose

MRP did not cite Jake for his contact on Dempster.

Common sense

King offered one week ban
richmondfc.com.au
5:12 PM Mon 04 Jun, 2012

Richmond forward Jake King has been offered a one-week suspension from the AFL Match Review Panel stemming from Friday night’s win over St Kilda.

King was charged with a Level One tripping offence against the Saints’ Stephen Milne during the first quarter of the match at Etihad Stadium.

Based on video evidence and a medical report from the St Kilda Football Club, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point).

This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand.   Due to an existing bad record of five matches suspended within the last three years, the penalty was increased by 50 per cent to 120 demerit points and a one-match sanction.

He also has 71.85 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 191.85 points and a one-match sanction.  An early plea reduced the sanction by 25 per cent to 143.89 points and a one-match sanction.

And on the other incident with Dempeter the MRP report says:

Contact between Richmond's Jake King and St Kilda's Sean Dempster from the second quarter of Friday's match was assessed. The ball was being kicked into the Richmond forward line to player Robbie Nahas when King blocked Dempster from going to the contest. It was the view of the panel that King's actions were not excessive or unreasonable in the circumstances. No further action was taken.
