As I said earlier.all he has to do is get his disposal right and he plays.they won't play him until he can string together a few games in a row where his disposals are effective

On that TAC Future Stars show they had some sort of '120 point rating system' on all the players drafted last year, Ellis was 4th overall and Elton 9th. He is a gun player, just need to build his fitness.

Does anybody else see the ridiculous double standards and hypocrisy in this statement?  ;D. The MC cannot be serious with this reasoning whilst we have players like Jackson, Edwards, king as walk up non negotiable starters in our lineup ;D ;D ;D

Tigers make a statement
By Heather Mellican
Coburg website
25th June, 2012

Coburg have clawed their way back into the winner’s circle after a 26-point victory against Collingwood at a muddy Mantello Holden Oval today.

It may not have been the prettiest of wins, with the Tigers’ inaccurate kicking keeping the Pies in with a chance, but their hunger and determination paid off as they left the day with the four points on the board and finals still in their reach.

Coburg started off strong with two quick goals from Luke Cartelli and Todd Elton in the first five minutes. However, Collingwood struck back, controlling a lot of the play, although wasted opportunities in front of goal by both sides ended with Coburg holding a three point lead at quarter time.

The return of Richmond’s Matt White proved helpful, as he created run through the midfield, working alongside Brett O’Hanlon, Daniel Venditti and Luke Cartelli. Todd Elton also had a solid first half, with his sticky fingers proving dangerous, rising above the Magpies to pick up six marks, 11 touches and a goal.

Coburg controlled most of the play in the second quarter, with plenty of opportunities inside their 50, with some smart play and fancy footwork from Steven Verrier and Luke McGuane, giving them a 20-point lead going into the main break.

Collingwood’s Caolan Mooney proved to be a handful for the Tigers with the 19-year-old Irishman kicking the Magpies' first five goals for the match. Collingwood continued to threaten the Tigers in the third quarter, using their space well to make the switch and create run and opportunities, resulting in four goals for the quarter.

Some classy displays and a miraculous mark from captain Nick Carnell and some careless free kicks given away by the Magpies assisted the determined Tigers to keep a 13-point lead going into the final term.

An early goal from Collingwood brought them back within 8 points, however the Tigers showed no sign of slipping and their same spirit from their battle with reigning premiers Port Melbourne last week was once again prominent.

A quick snap from Willie Wheeler gave the Tigers the momentum they needed and a captain’s goal from Carnell was accompanied by a huge roar from the home crowd as they began to taste victory.

A classily dribbled goal from Venditti sealed the win, as the Tigers dominated the quarter picking up 12 more inside 50s (20-8) and the midfield winning the clearances in the final term 13-4.

Collingwood’s prominent performers, Kris Pendlebury (19 disposals), Paul Seedsman (18) and Tom Sundberg (16) were not enough to compete with Coburg’s hunger for a win.

Matt White ended the game with 28 touches, with Venditti (23 disposals), Cartelli (21) and Verrier (20) also putting in solid performances.

David Fahey once again laid on the pressure in the backline, while Leigh Masters also showed some class.

Coburg captain Nick Carnell was happy with the win and hopes his team can continue on their road to the finals.

“We made a great statement today. It’s been a tough month, but the boys showed spirit and heart to get over the line.”

“Hopefully today’s win can be emulated next week on the road.”

Coburg will travel to Warnambool next week as they take on Geelong in hope of showing that they are real contenders this season.

Development coach Greg Mellor's summary of the Richmond-listed players at Coburg in last Sunday’s win against Collingwood....

Seniors team

Jeromey Webberley
Had another solid game, as he continues to build form on his return from injury. Was tagged early, but still managed to collect 19 possessions and was very effective with his ball use.

Addam Maric
Unfortunately, was quite ill on match-day and, as a result, his output was lower than his usual standards. Made a contribution, however, with some strong inside-50 tackles.

Angus Graham
A serviceable performance.  Had 21 hit-outs and 16 possessions, alternating between ruck and full-forward.  Took some strong marks, but we are looking for him to convert more on the scoreboard.

Jayden Post
Was solid, rather than influential, in his role as a key back. Controlled his opponent and used the ball well, but we would like him to impact more offensively.

 Brett O’Hanlon
Returned after two AFL games with Richmond and was a valuable contributor, gathering 16 possessions, playing as a wingman. His ability to play his role is excellent, as is his kicking, although he missed a couple of gettable shots for goal on the day.

Kel Moore
Took another step forward, playing his first senior VFL game, and got through really well.  Such is his versatility, he played on the opposition’s both small and tall key forwards, and contributed well to the team. We look forward to him building on this performance and getting to the stage where he can push for AFL selection.

Andrew Browne
Had another strong game.  His ruckwork was good and he combined well with Matt White, in particular, to gain a number of vital clearances for the team.

Luke McGuane
Worked himself into the game following a quiet first half.  Particularly pleasing was some really strong efforts from him in the forward area, with his defensive pressure. Had a high number of shots for goal, but his conversion needs to be better.

Tom Derickx
Had another reliable game in defence, displaying impressive aggressive at both his opponents and the ball.  Is working on a couple of minor areas of his game, but he continues to show good signs each week.

Todd Elton
Continued on from the previous week’s performance and was outstanding in the first half, with 13 possessions and seven marks.  Tired in the second half, but showed that he is going to be an exciting player for Richmond in the near future.

Dylan Grimes
Coburg had the luxury of playing him for a half on his return from injury.  He soon showed he has had lost none of his run and zip.  His ability to read the play and take intercept marks was a highlight, and he pulled up well from his time on the ground.

Matt White
Had another top game.  With 28 hard-earned, inside possessions, he was a crucial player in the team’s victory, combining very well with ruckman Andrew Browne. Unfortunately, he was reported for unintentional head-high contact, and subsequently suspended for one match.

Steve Verrier
Produced his best game at VFL level and is really starting to play with confidence. His ability to run hard and use the ball well, on most occasions, is particularly pleasing. We encourage him to take risks and back himself in and, while sometimes this does not come off, his capacity to impact the play, when it does, is excellent.

Development team

Gibson Turner
Had his best game for Coburg.  Demonstrated his ability to take marks as a small forward.  His work rate continues to improve and he set up a number of scoring shots for the team.  He finished with 1.3, so we need him to be more effective in front of goal.

Gideon Simon
Was a solid performer, improving as the game wore on.  Is a hard, tough, inside midfielder, who also has shown some ability when going forward.

Ben Darrou
Went back to the Development team this week and starred.  Picked up 30 possessions from the key defensive post, which was an outstanding contribution. His ability to set up his offensive transition running was excellent.
