RICHMOND midfielder Shaun Grigg says the Tigers have the necessary self-belief to climb the AFL ladder in the second half of the season and finish in the top eight.

Grigg was in Cairns yesterday and visited St Augustine’s College to meet the school’s under-14 Australian rules team, which have qualified for the final of the Gold Coast Suns Cup.

The students were keen to pick the brain of the 24-year-old, who is averaging 26.5 disposals this season in what is career best form since crossing over from Carlton at the end of the 2010 AFL season.

Grigg and his Tigers teammates will head to Cairns next month for their round-16 AFL encounter on July 14 against the Gold Coast at Cazalys.

With the Tigers sitting in 10th position at the moment, Grigg said a win over the Suns could prove vital for their finals’ hopes.

"We've had a hard start to the year. To be six and six has given us a chance at September action," he said.

"But we’ve got to get the skates on and get some wins coming home.

"We’ll back ourselves to beat anyone and we’ll expect to go in and win the game (against the Suns).

"The Gold Coast Suns, as you saw on the weekend, put up a really good effort against North Melbourne.

"It's not going be an easy game obviously, but we’ll back ourselves to get the four points."

The Tigers went down to the Suns in last year’s game at Cazalys, but Griggs hopes the club’s passionate supporters still turn out in force for their second outing in the Far North.

"I think we are third in the league for attendances. There are lots of Tigers supporters out there," Griggs said.

"Last year we saw them sitting up here in their shorts and singlets and thongs, and really getting hold of the weather.

"The Tigers army are unbelievable week-in, week-out.

"There’s that many of them and we love putting on a great show for them."

Grandstand seating have almost sold out for the Cazalys’ clash, but general admission tickets are still available.

Prices start at just $22.50 for adults, $5 for kids 15 years or under, or $45 for a family of four. Booking fees apply.

Tickets can be purchased from Cazalys Social Club, online from Ticket Direct www.ticketdirect.com.au or by phoning 1300 798 550.
