30 Years of Mediocrity
« on: June 30, 2012, 04:49:12 PM »
After watching this game today I have witnessed first hand the reason why this club will never be any good and probably wont play finals in my lifetime.  If you were an alien and landed on earth, went to a pub and saw one team on 51 the other 18 you wouls assume the side on 51 had more talent and was playing pretty well.
How you go from champagne footy to absolute garbage in the space of 5 minutes is beyond me and the playes, coaching staff, committee should be ashamed of our capitulation today.
As a fan and 15 year member I am embarrassed by today and this ends my association with the club.
I am disgusted by the selction policy playing Miller, Connors and playing Elton when hes not ready.
We will not play finals this year and I will not take that the we have a tough draw, we have had nil injuries and yet we sit here outside the top 8 without a way in.

19 point loss.  What a load of crap!! Pathetic.......

No finals for us again 2012. We are simply not good enough. For all the effort we have too many players who are standard VFL type players. Im just sad, our football club isnt going anywhere at the moment. We have stalled. Indeed when I said we played crap against St Kilda most in here said the opposite. The St Kilda game is the one which saw our average players start to play like millionaires on the footy field and move away from the defensive structures needed to win alot of games. Todays effort after 1/4 time was shameful. We dont deserve finals.

Expectations were raised after the Hawthorn and St Kilda wins but at the start of the year a frustrating season was always on the cards even with overall improvement given where our list is at. You can't lob this year with the previous 30 years. We have come a long way forward but we were starting from a long way back and in 2012 we aren't good enough YET. Upper level of our list is but it falls away still thanks to a mixture of still being too young and inexperienced and old guys still getting a game who can't cut it consistently when a game is on the line. I'm ticked off we lost today as anyone but nothing has changed as far as judging where we are at.

The funny thing is we could win our next 2-3 games in a row and be back in the hunt and hopes will be raised again. Likewise we will probably have another 'bad' loss along the way and we'll all be drowing our sorrows like right now. It's going to be one of those years and not unexpected from a young team. Very often young teams have the frustrating pre-year before the step up to become a finals side the following year. Anyway finishing 10-11th this year gets us a top 10 pick; Port's crapness means we'll get a early-mid 20 compo pick and probably another around 30 (normal 2nd round); then add a free agent who can walk into the side next year. Enables us to offload list cloggers and pushes most of our current bottom 6 out of the side to just fringe players/list cloggers. It's an evolving process as is development within our young cubs. As supporters we need to be patient even though that word ticks most of us off after 30 years of mediocrity.

The trouble is MT I have heard this kind of rumination for 30 years. It is an excuse to fail.

If you can go out and murder a top 4 genuine side like Hawthorn and lead Adelaide by 6 goals you have a great foundation indeed  the thing is we  just always bring our hard work undone  by stupid selection  mistakes  like this week  miller 0 goals stuff all assists and shitloads of clangers  gets played ffs wake up  RFC read this
