JJ, you thought Patto was soft? Or do you mean you just wouldn't have picked him up?

Still very young for ruckman. Most big blokes dont hit their straps until around 23.
I still think Ty will be a good player for us.

c'mon now dont be silly, he should be smashing blokes
kicking goals from acute angles, tapping it down the throats
of our midfield.

both of his wings are rooted, but hey get out there
do all the above and then we MIGHT acknowledge
your upside.

personally some need to temper their expectations
on these kids.

from what i saw of him last year he is going
to be a great LONG TERM player for us.

Both, hopeless below the knees.
Would never have picked him up.
Is at his 3 club in 5 years (rookie ) this year which says enough.

That shows that 3 AFL clubs thought he had something to offer. Wasn't soft either. Very courageous.

Some of our cleanest goals this year were from a Vick dim mak out of the centre

And Patto was not soft. But we've been over both of these facts twice.

Patto tried his best but he just wasn't up to the level.
He was too small and had no leap for ruck and too slow and lumbering for a kpp.

They rookied him Jack. Lost Renouf, Campbell, Bailey needed Ruffy in the fwd line it was insurance.

Reminds me of the Miller situation. Until the kids prove themselves or for want of another term he creates a contest. You have endorsed this openly and vehemently in the last two years.

good question.
I remember dermie saying that the hawks were looking at him closely but pulled the plug on recruiting him for the reasons above so I was just repeating what I heard dermi already say on radio the year after he was recruited.
I reckon he was spot on.
I also remember him saying once that Dustin Martin was never going to get any better than he already is and never be an elite player or something along those lines. He had some good reasons why but I can't remember what he said.
I really hope he's wrong though.  :pray
