If Chris Michaliades is one of our AFL rookie then No he would play in the VFL. If he was a VFL listed player only then if he was not selected for the VFL side then he would go back to what ever league his "2nd club" is affliated with

So if we were to have a full AFL list (44 including rookies) with no injuries then 22 blokes play AFL and 22 play VFL

If we were playing interstate and had a full AFL list to chose from we decide to take say 24 interstate to the AFL game, then others would play VFL and we'd need 2 VFL listed (top up) players to play in the VFL side

If we had a injury list of say 6 players then we would use 6 VFL listed players to play in the VFL.

Ground shortage leaves VFL with late-March start for 2014.

I'd guess the latest possible start gives the RFC more valuable time to build the needed infrastructure for VFL games to be played at Punt Rd next year.

So, how are we looking for round 1?

Bachelor - Darrou - Dea
Pettard - Astbury - McIntosh
Grigg - Helbig - Williams
Ohanlon - Elton - Mcdonough
A.Edwards - Griffiths - G.Simon
Orren - #11 -  Arnot
#46 #64 #82

by jingos. Might as well give the Richmond VFL the flag now.  :clapping

Then there's the 20 or so VFL specific players we are signing.

Who are they?

Nathan Lovett-Murray, Cam Howart are two aren't they?

For the next few months it will be just down the road from Al and I.  He has signed to play with Southern Districts in the local comp and plays his first game for them on Sat.

im hoping we go like this. mainly because we need to improve significantly if we are to make finals again and we wont do it with the same old same olds.

seniors
b/ morris - chaplain - grimes.
hb/ dea - rance - mcintosh
c/  ellis - martin - pick 12.
hf/ knights - riewoldt - deledio
f/  mcdonough - vickery - hampson
r/ maric - vlastuin - cotchin
int/ conca - jackson - foley - helbig/arnot

vfl
batchelor - darrou - newman
hb/ houli - astbury - petterd
c/ grigg - arnot - williams
hf/ king - elton - ohanlon
f/ a edwards - griffiths - mcbean
r/ stephenson - s edwards -  pick 50
int/ pick 68 - mature rookie - rookie - rookie

imo if some of the younger blokes cant take the next step and force players out we will go backwards. its a sort of wishful thinking senior side.

Yes, highly unlikely that we'l make the finals again with the same young team that took us to fifth this year. Doubtful that they'll improve like they have in other years. Wholesale changes required.

I don't think it (claw proposed starting 22) that radical myself.

The only players I would see as definite at this stage are:

seniors

B      Morris  --  Grimes
HB    Deledio  --  Rance
C        Ellis  --  Vlastuin   --   NationalDraftSelection#1
HF   Martin  --  Vickery
F                    Reiwoldt
OB  Maric  --  Cotchin --  Conca
I
+1

I would think the rest is more or less up in the air. To argue a Dea or McIntosh ahead of Houli, or Aarnot being best 22 are neither crazy. Even Helbig before Grigg. Houli is one mentioned I would have in the fringe players catagory rather than definitive starting 18.

This might all be redundant talk as the selection committee have proven themselves bias towards Grigg, Pettard etc.

Agreed. I was more responding to Claw's statement that we can't do it with the 'same olds'

the premise is the same olds i want out wont improve.
top 8 has become a get down get dirty dog fight between a lot of sides. if we dont improve they will just go past us. sides who did not make it last yr and have lists every bit as good as ours if not better are essendon, nm, wce, adelaide. we must keep on improving and the only real area left is juniors who have been around for 2 or 4 yrs and have upside.

its funny we all defend players we like but over a 5 yr period most sides will turn over 20 to 25 players.  that means players we think are okay will go.
it is about youngsters coming thru and forcing if you like average players out.
we need the likes of mcintosh mcdonough one of about 3 or 4 tall forwards and a few mids to step up or we will stagnate and get passed.

True

And in the last 4 years since dimma's been coach you'll find we've turned over more than that.

So what exactly is that you want?

It seems to me that because the club hasn't flicked the ones you want or believe they should have then they haven't flicked enough

I am genuinely surprised that a couple of blokes have survived this year that I would have cut but considering the draft depth isn't strong I can understand it
