Richmond ruckman Shaun Hampson hurt in practice match

    March 26, 2015 - 8:46PM

Tigers ruckman Shaun Hampson suffered an ankle injury during the practice match against Collingwood at Punt Road Oval on Thursday afternoon.

Going into the game with his right knee heavily strapped, the Richmond big man limped from the ground with the club doctor in the third quarter. The ruckman, who has become a depth ruck forward behind Ivan Maric and Ty Vickery, rolled his ankle and is expected to be held back for several weeks.

Hampson had been doing well in the hit-outs against returning Magpies ruckman Jarrod Witts in the VFL practice match when he was injured.

He was one of only two senior Tigers players to be on the field - early draftee Corey Elliswas the other - with the Magpies fielding 10 senior-list players as well as rookie forward Corey Gault.

Well that's one good thing to come out of the game.

How'd Ellis go?

Reece McKenzie looked promising up forward, kicking both of Richmond’s goals and presenting strongly on the lead.

Corey Ellis also looked impressive around the contest and led the Club’s disposal and clearance count for the first half, before playing limited minutes toward the end of the game.

Shaun Hampson was also effective in the ruck. He had ten hitouts and three clearances to half time, before leaving the field with a leg injury.  His absence gave rookie draftee Ivan Soldo the opportunity to predominantly ruck the rest of the game.

Nothing to supplement my potential hunger at Windy Hill. Not even some Vitamin C.
I'll stay away. May get scurvy going there.

the last 2 practice games reminded me of the old VFL days when clubs would sign prospective players up on a form 4, then bring them down for practice games, pick out what they wanted and name the team for the season at the conclusion. It appears to me that this is close to the squad.

He wasn't in the seniors because of hamstring soreness.

Not sure. I think he will be tested again this week and we'll have a better idea.
