Our ressies played in a combined Tigers/Bulldogs/Suns 18 vs 18 scratch match today including swapping jumpers.

source: Tom Browne on 7news.

The dogs lost Hunter to injury. No mention of our boys copping any injuries.

Xavier Clarke on the Tigers who are playing in scratch matches:

Combining with other clubs for scratch matches

"It has been challenging and as the season goes on, we are faced with more of those challenges... We chose not to bring our full list up, and those boys will join us on Thursday, so we'll have more numbers. But, we've had six to seven guys that we've needed to find some games for, and it's been quite funny working with other clubs to try and fit in games. The first week, we joined with Melbourne and Essendon to play Carlton. The second game, we joined up with the Bulldogs, and the last game, Essendon. It's a funny time, but I think our players just love playing footy. They love getting out there and having a kick."

Thomson Dow

"Thomson's been really good. He's played two of the scrimmage games we've had...he's got great agility around the ball, he's played on the wing and at times on-ball, and we've seen some of the things he can do really well. When he does get the ball, he does explode from the stoppage or contest and he's got really good pace. We've been impressed with what he's been doing...it's been good to get some game time into him and he's certainly showing some of the things he can do really well."

Callum Coleman-Jones

"'CJ' played well the first couple of games. He played ruck and forward. Unfortunately, he had a little bit of a hotspot on his foot which restricted him from playing the last game but he was coming along really well and developing really well. We know he's got a great talent, he's really good as a forward and he also can play that ruck role."

Hugh Ralphsmith

"We really like Hugo, he's got some talent and he's showing some really good things in the way he goes about it. He's certainly going to be a player for us, whether that's on the wing or half-forward...he kicked two nice goals again on the weekend. We like the way he goes about it. He runs really hard and he's got a bit of flair about him."

Jack Graham

"He played forward and midfield on the weekend in his first scrimmage game. He did really well, His first half was phenomenal, his running ability from contest to contest was elite."

Patrick Naish
"Played a bit of time at half-back. He's a really good ball user and he played that to his strengths on the weekend. So it was great to see him go back and build a bit of confidence but also win the ball as well."

Second-Tier Competition

The VFL & NEAFL will combine into one Second-Tier Competition that will sit alongside the SANFL and the WAFL in 2021.

AFL Clubs based in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria will be provided with flexibility to determine the form of their involvement in Second-Tier Football in 2021 with three options available to each of those Clubs:

- Field a standalone team
- Align with an existing Second-Tier Club
- Spread their AFL-listed players across multiple Second-Tier Clubs.

Documents sent to clubs by the AFL refer to the "VFL/East Coast second tier competition" as a "working title".

--------------

I'm hearing that alignments with AFL clubs might be forced upon the stand-alone clubs, depending on the cuts to list sizes of the almighty AFL.

That's what i'm hearing, if the cuts to AFL lists are such that they won't have the numbers to field their own teams then the stand-alones will be forced into alignments with them so that their (the AFL-listed players) will have somewhere to play.

There are also rules around the composition of playing lists, ie stand-alone clubs will have to contract 20 players under the age of 23, and 10 must be under the age of 21. Aligned and AFL clubs will be permitted to list five players over the age of 23. Five will have to be under the age of 23, and 20 other players under 21, sourced from zones that each club has been allocated.

I assume this is to create a pathway from the NAB Cup to the VFL that the Development League used to provide until some highly-paid exec at the AFL decided that it was 'not sustainable' ......

Who should we align with under any proposal of alignments for VFL footy?

I would like to see us try and get a foothold in Bayside Melbourne. St Kilda have been a rabble for 100 years theyll continue to be a rabble.

That being the case we should cut their lunch and try and do a deal with Sandringham. That would give us exposure to some really wealthy suburbs like brighton and hampton and black rock and beaumauris stretching as far as parkdale and chelsea. This area along with our current strongholds in the south east, and east would help sustain us for the decades to come.

Unless we have full development control of that team its pointless.
The Coburg years prove how destructive to development it can be.

We should do all we can to keep our successfully winning development program going. I can’t see why we can’t keep the status quo

It’s not like we are a poor club. We have the money and the support.
The club that keeps giving.

We could have 100 million bucks in the bank but it means very little

Costs for running a stand alone VFL side falls under the soft cap

Which has been slashed by over $3 million for season 2021

It costs approx $600k to $800k season to run a stand alone VFL side

So changes need to be made in the footy dept to come under the cap

Biggest challenge the Club has faced in quite sometime

Somethings will have to go or be significantly changed

Suppose it comes down how you prioritise things
