Goalkicking is a basic skill and once again we've had more scoring shots yet lost. No excuses missing 4 set shots in a row in that second quarter
. When you have the momentum you have to put it on the scoreboard.
As for the numerous brainfades - whether it's a lack of maturity or just plain dumbness, it's all these that hurt us in these close games. Not killing the ball and squeezing the game down. We have it in a forward line and don't have a wall a kick behind the play or at least an extra loose man to stop it clearing. Cambo as runner was running around trying to coach the side in the last minute because they were all panicking
; Not standing defensive side of stoppages and not manning up on Murphy who killed us; Then there's not getting the ball out of bounds (Yarran again dancing along the boundary line which leads to that last goal
); Panic kicks in defence that go out on the full or dangerously go back into the corridor straight to the opposition costing us goals; Having no one on the goal-line so the ball clears the 1-on-1 for a goal to them; Kick-ins or switch-kicks that miss open targets that either stop us clearing out of defence or worse causing a turnover and costing us goals; Straightforward marks dropped; fumbling and running over the ball .... The little things that all add up. Just so frustrating!
Plenty of work on over the preseason before we become a good side and genuine finals contender.
