Tigers face video scrutiny
By Paul Daffey
Tue 31 Jul, 2012

RICHMOND players have faced individual video reviews from coaches in the wake of the Tigers' disastrous loss to Carlton on Saturday.

Midfielder Brett Deledio revealed on Tuesday that individual, rather than team reviews, had never happened before in his eight years at the club.

This week every player sat on his own before senior coach Damien Hardwick and line coaches and watched footage of pertinent moments in the Carlton match.

Deledio joked that he found it 'scary' when he learned of the individual reviews.

"It was quite surprising," he said.

"It was really good, though. I got a lot out of it."

Deledio said there was still a positive mindset around Punt Road despite the Tigers' third consecutive loss by less than a goal.

Richmond has lost to Gold Coast (two points), North Melbourne (four) and Carlton (four) during its past three games.

Deledio said he was 'gutted' after the loss to the Blues, as was every Richmond coach and player.

He said Hardwick's disappointment was clear when he raised his voice after the match, which is not usually his practice, but in the wash-up the coach had insisted on letting go of the loss and concentrating on the match against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba this Saturday night.

"He makes sure he tells us we're not allowed to sulk or mope around," Deledio said.

"The sun always comes up, he says.

"We deal with it, we move on, and we look forward to the next game."

With a record of 7-10, Richmond must win its remaining five games to have a hope of making the finals.

Deledio said the club's aim was simply to win as many of the remaining games as possible.

"We just continue to build on what we're trying to build on.

"We're slowly seeing some reward, but at the moment it's hard work."

Of his brilliant sortie out of the centre in the dying moments of Saturday's match against Carlton, Deledio said his aim simply was to avoid getting tackled and then pump the ball into attack.

"Maybe I could have gone for goal, but I was just trying to get it inside 50," he said.

Its horrific isn't it.   No individual reviews.....  But Hardwick is a great coach.......

Richmond will never be a successful football club until they get a Coach that actually knows how to run a football club and changes the structures from the ground up like Malthouse did at Collingwood.  They were rabble of Richmond proportions when he went there.

With all the coaches and development staff at the football club, why has no one ever told Deledio with his elite skill and running ability that he should take on opposition at every opportunity and go for goal rather than passing to a bunch of duds who don't want the ball or who will butcher it if they do get it.

About effin time.
I want to see money put into coaching aand player development the way the big clubs have.
If this can be achieved you will see better results in the players joing the senior core as they will be ready to take on the game in the way collingwood recruits are.
The anywhere, anytime Tigers.

Wouldn't mind if Malthouse went there in the same role Eade has at Collingwood.

This would help Hardwick mature as a coach a lot faster than he may otherwise!
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Today was unique because all the coaches did the video review with players, not just the line coaches which is what they normally get each week.

What sort of response is that? Individual? Group?

Do our players get individual reviews or not on a weekly basis?

Just steady on, the line coaches obviously do the one on one reviews normally.

Everbody just settle down and take a pill.
