Brisbane vice-captain Josh Drummond has announced his retirement.

The 29-year-old half-back informed the club of his decision on Tuesday night.

Drummond, a product of the Sunshine Coast, said that after playing 94 senior games over nine seasons, he couldn't put his body through another AFL campaign.

MELBOURNE has continued its off-season cull of players, with another eight given the axe on Saturday.

Matthew Bate, Ricky Petterd, Jamie Bennell, Lucas Cook, Liam Jurrah and rookies Jai Sheahan, Leigh Williams and Kelvin Lawrence were told their services were no longer required at the Demons.

They join Cale Morton (traded to West Coast), Stefan Martin (Brisbane Lions), Jordan Gysberts (North Melbourne), Jared Rivers (Free Agent - Geelong) and Brent Moloney (Free Agent - Brisbane Lions) to leave the club following the 2012 season.

If we were to apply the efficiency calculation (n=(power out/power in)) to what Melbourne gained and lost this trade period, they wouldn't even hold up to a gas turbine.

Patrick Smith made a good point on SEN this morning.

All this tanking and investing in youth and it has all failed, yet only Bailey gets the blame for it and Schwab etc get to stick around for another rebuild.

lol Melbourne  :lol

More de-listings:
=============

Saints cut Clarke

Date October 31, 2012 - 3:53PM

St Kilda has finally given up on waiting for Raphael Clarke to cement a senior spot, cutting him after 85 games in nine AFL seasons.

The Saints sacked Jason Gram on Tuesday.

Brett Peake, Dean Polo and Sam Crocker were delisted, while Brendon Goddard (Essendon) and Jamie Cripps (West Coast) have found new clubs.
========

CARLTON

Carlton has delisted forward Andrew Collins, the player they received two years ago from Richmond in a trade for Shaun Grigg.

While Grigg has become a key player with the Tigers, coming fifth in their best and fairest this season, Collins managed just 11 games in total in his two years with the Blues.

The 23-year-old will continue training with Carlton in the hope the Blues will re-list him through December’s pre-season draft.

Blues also de-listed: Paul Bower, Bret Thornton and Rohan Kerr,

Fremantle, who has lost Antoni Grover to retirement and Greg Broughton to Gold Coast, delisted Jay van Berlo and upgraded Clancee Pearce and Lee Spurr from its rookie list.
