Brent Moloney will be footy's first free agent.

Moloney is certain to leave the Demons and up to six clubs, including Sydney and Port Adelaide, are pursuing the Melbourne 2011 best-and-fairest winner.

Any interest here?

From yesterday: (I can't find the direct quote from Jay Clark on the Herald-Sun website though.)

Update: Richmond out of race for Cloke, Melbourne have some interest in Gumbleton, Freo interested in Moloney, Clinton Young saying at Hawks, Nahas staying at Richmond, Port interested in Russell, Essendon and North join race for toy.

Banner looked a promising junior footballer (wingman/HFF) albeit needed some work to add more to his game. I know some people at the time rated him highly and thought Port got him for a bargain at pick 42 in the 2008 draft. Obviously others clearly didn't and that's why he dropped. Ones of the knocks on him is he lacks a defensive side to his game. He's done hardly anything at AFL level apart from probably a game or two late last year where he kicked 2-3 goals and had 20 or so possies. Being injury prone hasn't helped. He's playing SANFL ressies for Port Magpies at the moment after coming back about a month ago from his latest knee injury which kept him out for most of this year. As a Tiger supporter the fear would be he could become another Mitch Farmer and an injury prone one to boot if he crossed over to us. I hope the rumour is false.

Rather a Ben Jacobs if we were after poaching another Port player [Edit: Just saw your post Ruanaidh. Great minds think alike  :thumbsup].

I'm glad to hear he's no adam maric. Starting to warm to the idea.

Banner is a lot better than Mitchy Farmer. I'd probably take him if we got him for free. Jacobs...:( Poor mans Matty Dea. Not sure I want Port players. Never stuffing works out for us.

Yeah but you think Joan Rivers would be a gun CHB in a good footy enviroment.

Saw plenty of banner at the jets, looked a limited player back then and was surprised he got drafted. Don't know how much he's developed but..... Hmmm

Shane Tuck and Steven Morris didn't look much in their younger years either.

he gets plenty of ball at the lower level and seems to have a decent tackle count for someone who is regarded as needing to improve his defensive side.
from what i can garner reading around the traps he is an old fashioned natural footballer that can kick with both feet. Not overly quick but natural footballs can make up this.

Most port supporters seem bewildered he hasn't got more of a go in the seniors.

considering he is playing reserves in the SANFL after a extended injury lay off, he should come cheap, if we are actually interested
