Former Geelong forward Cameron Mooney reckons Wayne Carey has "jumped the gun" by hailing Richmond star Trent Cotchin as the best midfielder in the AFL.
Carey, regarded by many as the greatest player in VFL/AFL history, made the bold claim in a website column this week following another supreme performance from the 22-year-old Tiger.
Cotchin amassed 35 disposals and three goals in Richmond's win over the Bulldogs and has averaged almost 27 possessions per outing in 2012.

Mooney is among Cotchin's many admirers, but believes the likes of Gary Ablett, Scott Pendlebury and Chris Judd still rule the AFL's midfield elite.
"It's a big call from 'Duck'. He might have jumped the gun on that one," Mooney said on FOX FOOTY's AFL 360.
"He will be (No.1) next year or the year after, no question.
"The way he wins his own ball, breaks away from the pack with it ... he's a great decision maker and goes forward now and kicks goals.
"He's got great hands, he tackles, he's ferocious and has leadership written all over him."
AFL 360 co-host Mark Robinson said Cotchin's improvement is yet to be tested in September.
"It's great to say he's the best midfielder, but I think you need big finals games and premierships before you can say that," Robinson said.
