August 16, 2012 11:04AMRICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick says he's in no hurry to hand Trent Cotchin the captaincy, insisting "at this stage" Chris Newman will remain in charge next season.
Tigers' legend Matthew Richardson declared Cotchin will be Richmond's next leader, but Hardwick said he was in no rush to anoint a successor to Newman.
"At this stage he (Newman) is (captain next year)," Hardwick said.
"He's been outstanding.
"There's no rush on the captaincy, no rush at all ... that's something we'll work our way through in due course. Chris has been outstanding in that role.
"Captains sort of know when their time's come to pass over the baton so to speak, but that'll be something we'll work through over the course of the next 12-24 months."
Hardwick ruled out making a play for Adelaide forward Kurt Tippett, but the Tigers are still interested in out-of-contract Magpie Travis Cloke.
"We still firmly believe he'll be at Collingwood (next season). If it falls down, we'll work our way through that," he said.
