Fixture formula on cardsBy Matt Thompson

Sat 01 Sep, 2012A SPECIAL formula could be used to work out which teams will have the luxury of playing competition 'easy beats' Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney twice in 2013.
Planning for next season's fixture is well underway, but any thought of a conference system have been quashed with AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan insisting that idea, and others, would create "big pitfalls".
"It is a real issue, and we're upfront about it, saying it's imperfect," McLachlan told 3AW.
"I think that the expansion phase of Gold Coast and GWS has been a challenge, that probably has been a greater one than we anticipated in terms of its impact on the fixture."
McLachlan admitted teams who face the Suns and Giants twice are potentially provided with an extra advantage, and it's something they have to work though.
"We'll work [out] how we mitigate that in 2013," he said.
"We might have to be pretty prescriptive about who plays those guys twice."
