yeah, lets just cut em all loose and replace them with picks 150 -154 in the draft.

Only one of those would be starting 22 from our full list anyway. they will slowly be weeded out over time
its never been about cutting 15 in one go from the list proper. its also never been about going to picks 150 - etc to replace them. that really is a big deflection from what most people are saying.

plenty of mature players in state leagues and players  not getting a go at their respective clubs who would allow us to value add on those long term underachievers.

the key has always been especially when building a list from a low base is  make sure you utilise your early to mid range picks on kids.
i firmly believe we need to cut at least two more from the senior list.allowing us to utilise 9, 29,31, 51,69. plus a psd pick on a mature player and two fa selections on needs.
i would also be looking to take two or  three mature players as rookies balancing it out with 3 kids.

most of the glass half fulls are contracted but two mcguane and white are not.

to me mcguanes replacement would be chaplin.
whites replacement moloney
webberley -  knights and so on.
moore  -  with a nd pick in lee or kid like alex howson.

Umm, Claw , i'm not sure where you pulled cutting 15 in one go from? not my post?
actually  the post I was responding to mentioned another 4 players to not be on the list next year, so someone was actually saying 13 in one go , and to do so means you are going very deep in the draft to find replacements (excluding possible 1 or 2 free agents )

no deflecting of what was being said, just you not taking the time to read the discussion.
perhaps slow down and read before commenting  :thumbsup

fair enough just read that post.

thing is too often when debating the draft and cutting players  people have thrown up we cant cut players because its pointless to replace players  with  picks 150 odd plus..
we can easily turn over 8 from the list proper and only use picks 9, 29, 31, 51, and 69 . 5 nd picks is what is required plus fa and psd. to make 8. we have 6 rookie picks and can target mature players a total of 14 is realistic imo.

been going on about state league recruits for awhile now along with free agency and the psd turning over the list is not hard.
in looking after the  long term future in the nd  we could add with psd rookie and fa
martin 22 moloney 29,   chaplin 26 , knights 26,  hartigan 22,  sundberg 24? michael sikora ?,  all mature players in one go and we dont have to go past the 4th rnd in the nd with our first 5 picks.

we could also take tom lee at pick 29 a 21 yo whos ready to go or a bloke like duffy 20 yo with 69 whos been playing wafl. both i consider long term prospects and as such kids.we could use pick 9 on a bloke like caddy whos had two yrs in the system and is probably now ready to go.
we can do all of this if we so wished and not go past pick 69.

anyway apologies didnt mean to misinterpret your post.

Agree, cutting 14 would be easy, and the difference it would make

Firsts
B: Grimes Chaplin Morris
HB: Batchelor Rance Russell
C: Deledio Foley Grigg
R: Maric Cotchin Tuck
HF: Pearce Lynch Martin
F: Vickery Reiwoldt Newman

I: Houli Knights Edwards King

Magoos
B: Darrou* Griffiths Dea
HB: Ellis Post Verrier*
C: Helbig Jackson --state league rookie*--
R: Browne* Conca Arnot
HF: Nahas Astbury OHanlon
F: Elton Derickx Simon*

I: --state league rookie*-- --state league rookie*-- --rookie*--  --draft--  --draft--  --draft--

Some depth there and we lost no one of value and didn't upset the senior side. Obviously more than one way to skin a cat, but that's one.

tom lee 195/93 21 yo from claremont. has had two v/good yrs playing seniors i wanted us to rookie him last yr as a chb. this yr hes played as a chf  good in the air agile and good kick will go in the 2nd rnd somewhere i reckon.
similar situation to when geelong took harry taylor. not saying hes as good as taylor but i like what ive seen of him think theres a lot to work with. could be he doesnt make it but think he will.
if we were to take a tall at 31 and we wanted him young 21yo and  ready to go it would be lee. if we wanted to develop  a kid it would be for me alex howson from e/freo. think both will go somewhere around our picks 29/31. would like one of them.

adelaide drafted lee in 08 09.  i think he lasted one yr he was just too immature and not ready for afl.since then he has puleed his head in grown up and will get drafted thru hard work.

Theoretically you could get in free agents

Knights HFF 26yrs – replaces White
Chaplin FB 27yrs – replaces Moore
Pearce Wing/HF/HB 27yrs - replaces Connors
Russell HBF 26yrs – replaces Webberley
Lynch CHF 30yrs – replaces McGuane (really Miller, McG only got the gig when Milzy hit the wall)

All would be upgrades.

Then add
3 national draft picks in the top 40 replacing McDonald, Browne, Graham
3 state league players 21-23yrs in the rookie draft to replace Miller, Maric, Heslin
2 project kids in the rookie draft replacing Wright & Turner, probably rucks/small fwds
1 international rookie

14 changes to the deep end of the list and still time to give the arse a scratch.

claw bait

Amen to that  :pray :clapping

just delist them and replace them with free agents of better quality

no-one will go deep in the draft these days when you can get upgrades for nix
They should really just draft guys from the state leagues to fill these spots. They'll come over bloody hungry and determined to succeed like Morris, which would already be a plus on those other spuds. Just to clarify for anyone who'll take that out of context, not saying they will be as good as Morris, just that giving them a chance on the big stage will actually make them contest and put their bodies on the line unlike some others we have got.

Bit of truth in what you say JVT.   :thumbsup

Not only that but it gives the opportunity to have ready made players for the VFL supp list that the club must have in 2014 when they go it alone. If you rookie some mature age blokes, if they don't make it you can always offer them a position on the VFL list  ;D

Sounds like the way to go.
