rookie players for stand alone team in the vfl
« on: October 09, 2012, 02:29:03 PM »
with the club going down this path and the talk of us taking mature players for both depth and a competetive stand alone team i thought i would post a side with mature players that we can take/target  from the state leagues and other clubs along with our nd picks.
if anyone can think of players to add please do.its a loose compilation and is designed to show what we can do in a short space of time. its obviously just a guide.
will put up our senior side first so people can compare and see whats happening. people will disagree with some selections and ommisions remember its just a guide and a personal preference.
im hopeful theres going to be plenty of pressure coming from those in the twos for a spot in the ones.

seniors
b/   grimes - chaplin - morris
hb/  ellis - rance - batchelor
c/    deledio - tuck - grigg
hf/  edwards - riewoldt - martin
f/    vickery  - griffiths - knights
r/   maric - cotchin - foley
int/  conca - newman - houli - nd 9.
coburg next yr

b/     helbig - hartigan (r)  - darrou
hb/  verrier- rodda/howson nd 50 -  dea
c /   sundberg (r) -  moloney fa  -  houli
hf/  ohanlon - astbury - nahas
f/    duffy nd 68 -  elton  -  king
r/   hannath (r) - jackson - dwyer (r)
int  arnot - nd 29 - boyd  nd 84 -  martin (r)
the obvious wealness is a developing ruckman other than that all dbases are covered.

new rookies
hartigan 22 yo mid
tom sundberg  23 yo mid
hannath age ? ruckman
sam dwyer
martin 22yo mid

that would fill up our rookie list with verrier and darrou being retained.

okay gone from the main list
macdonald
connors
moore
browne
webberley all gone.
white
post  =
mcguane
derickx
in all honesty hardly a contentious decision some will say mcguane should be kept but when you look at it hes actually taking a spot from a younger player and hurting development  at both richmond and coburg.
post is another would be prepared to give him another season and cut one less player again its just showing whats possible.
new to main list
f/a
knights
chaplin
moloney

nd 9 mid 18yo
nd 29 mid 18yo
nd 31 mid 18yo
nd 50 rodda / howson  kpds 18yo
nd  68 max duffy 20yo hf/mid
nd 84 james boyd 23yo mid/rover

gone from rookie list

miller
heslin
a maric
wright
turner
we have a spare opening. thats 6

new to rookie list
hartigan
sundberg
hannath
dwyer
martin
all of these rookies look capable of performing at afl level and add genuine depth if injuries happen. they provide maturity and leadership for the kids they also make for a well structured and competetive 2nds team. imo theres a better chance of finding a decent afl player among these relatively young players than 18 yr old rookies.

of course it is all relative to what trades we do from here on in but i would be looking for something like this if we are to have a go alone team in the vfl.

You've doubled up on Houli claw.  :)

The inclusion of Knights and Chaplin will cause a few regulars to have their spot challenged. I noticed you had omitted Jackson, King and Nahas. King would probably be the player out of that three who would retain his position but that would mean one of Conca, Ellis or Batchelor may miss out.

I can't comment on the rookies etc. I don't know enough to say whether they are good selections or not.  :thumbsup

Will the club sign players for coburg - looking to move them to the rfc vfl the following season?
