So who drops out?

The coaches would have lock in players for certain positions and be figuring out who plays where and what is our best 22. I think it would be interesting to get peoples opinions on firstly who should be in the each area of the ground and also their rank of importance to that area.

Knights isn't a small forward and why should he walk straight into our team? Needs to perform in pre-season. Can't believe you have him higher than Edwards & Nahas either. At least they have been playing regular footy in the seniors.
I don't agree with your rating of King. Nahas & Edwards are better simply because they get a kick most weeks.
Chris Newman is our best small defender? Bloke doesn't have an opponent half the time. I'd take Batchelor over him any day...not that Batch is small but he can play a role on a small forward. Grimes is better than Rance & especially Chaplin.
edit: Both Lids and Martin can play inside and outside, so there's no need for big Dan Jackson.

I'm very similar to Stripes. Depending on who else comes in, in my opinion I see Batchelor, Nahas and even Ellis right on the cusp. The new blokes we specifically targeted will go straight in as long as they meet par and are fit. The merits can be debated till the cows come home but it's going to happen. Three forward talls didn't work this year which might keep Nahas in 'my' side, but who knows what the go will be next year.

Spot on. I wouldn't put him in my 22, but the coaches like him for some otherworldly reason.

I think Morris is a better small defender now than Newman but their roles are very different. Morris is a great shut down defender who has leg speed while Newman is more highly rated because of his foot skills and, in particular, leadership.

Newman must have leg speed as he was our rep in the GF sprint. The way he gave 100% right to the finish line was astounding.

Not sure about Ellis to be honest. From a long term view point I'd say yes but short term not so sure. Depending on who we take in this year's draft with pick 9 I wouldn't be surprised if they go ahead of Ellis

Also think there maybe some question marks over Newman as well. I don't think he had a great 2012 and at times he looked really slow so I wonder if someone like Batchelor moves ahead of him. IMV he does

Also it's pleasing to know we still haven't seen what Arnott brings to the table; ditto Elton as well

I can see some depth staring to appear.

I can understand the comments about Newman and agree with them.

However I believe that Newy can play a role in the fwd line and pinch hit there with effect and thus letting Batch carve his own niche in the backline.

Newy off a HFF can be dangerous. He is good with disposal and is a fairly accurate kick for goal.

I reckon he could do some real damage there.

b/  morris - chaplin - grimes. imo that is a lock in line.

hb/  batchelor - rance - ellis/dea/conca/newman. its likely to be newman but im hoping dea can take a step. some will have houli here.

c/  grigg - tuck - deledio. sort of picks itself.
r/  maric - cotchin - foley.

hf/ edwards - griffiths - martin.   prefer riewoldt at chf but most on here dont. martin will rotate thru  here until his motor is big enough.edwards is our best performed sml forward from this yr.

f/  vickery - riewoldt  - knights. vickery gets first crack as the back up ruckman/for. like morris we got knights for a reason. his ability to rotate thru the midfield puts him a mile in front of others.

int/  newman - ellis - conca - houli. for the life of me i cant see conca or ellis not playing they will continue to put games into them regardless.

emg/ pick 9 - helbig - arnot - o hanlon - mature recruits from state leaugues. im hoping pick 9 can play straight away if we take a kid like dean towers he may be ready to go straight away as well.
