Spoke to a demon supporting friend, he seems to feel pettard is far too slow.  :-\

That will happen when you're carrying leg injuries. I feel Petterd will have to be 100% fit to have an impact.

OH RICKY

Ricky Petterd, the former Demon confronted his old team in his first game in yellow and black. Interestingly the medium forward was used as a loose man in defence, acting as sweeper. Richmond last year liked to play a loose man behind the ball and slingshot the ball forward. Petterd didn't get a lot of the ball in this role but worked across to help cover for Steven Morris or others to run forward. He went forward with the press to mark well late.

Petterd 'rejuvenated' in Tiger defence

RICHMOND recruit Ricky Petterd says he has been “rejuvenated” by a move to the backline since arriving at Punt Road.

Petterd made his name as a medium-forward for Melbourne before being delisted at the end of last year, leaving Richmond to secure his services via the rookie draft.

Speaking ahead of Saturday night’s NAB Cup clash against Essendon in Wangaratta, Petterd said he had enjoyed the change as he pushes for a spot on the senior list.

"I'm down back at the moment and since I've got to Richmond I've started training with the backline,"Petterd said.

"It's rejuvenated me, just to start fresh and it's been a new challenge for me to learn their structures after playing forward for four or five years.

"It's something I've missed when I went a bit stale up forward and it's good to be running off half-back again.

"Just the camaraderie between the backline, it's really strong. Even at Melbourne it was really strong and they always did things together. It's something I want to be a part of.

"Dimma's (coach Damien Hardwick) put a bit of faith in me to put me back there and given me a few roles to play."

Petterd said a berth on the senior list was there for him should his form and fitness warrant selection.

"He (Hardwick) said 'we've got you in here, you can play footy and we want you to get your body right'," Petterd said.

"He said to me at the start when I first got here he expects me to play at some stage, it all depends on how the pre-season goes and how I'm going during the year."

Would love this bloke to come good. He provides increased flexibility in what is already a very flexible unit.

Out of Lonergan, Petterd and Stephenson, Petterd will be the only player that has the ability to be a very good player and hang around for a long time.

Would be a nice change from being our Dan Murphy at the cricket
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Think they will elevate him to the senior list, we have one more spot left.
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

If he keeps playing like he did last week then he will deserve it.

Well I think we will see today, there will be plenty of heat down back I reckon.
