Thank my source Moi (you know him  ) for the info of Graham on Brown. I thought he was kidding  . Glad to be proven wrong by the old bloke Graham. J.Brown had no influence whatsoever and that was one of the main reasons why we won the game.

Agree Moi. Gas was definitely in our best 7-8 players. AA full back certainty on current form.

gas said that he took Brown when he played at Ff and Graham took him when he was at CHF - interesting strategy to trust two blokes on a ;potential game breaker - but also clever because Gas is definitely better at FB. Good coach that TW.

He said to the Player Link people before the game that if we beat the Lions tonite we won't see them again this year....

Nathan Brown turned from villain to hero as Richmond won at the Gabba for the first time since 2000, inflicting a fourth straight home defeat on the Brisbane Lions by four points on Saturday night.

The normally deadly Brown missed several gilt-edged chances in the third quarter, but stepped to the fore in the final term with two timely snaps - the first on his natural left foot to give the Tigers the lead 13 minutes in, and the second on his non-preferred right boot to put Richmond back in front with a shade over two minutes remaining.

The latter proved decisive as Richmond held on for a 12.15 (87) to 12.11 (83) win - a result that reduces the Lions' season record to 3-6, with three losses by a goal or less.

Earlier the Tigers had threatened to do what recent hard-running Gabba victors Sydney, West Coast and Western Bulldogs had done before them, dominating the opening exchanges with some enterprising play and quick ball movement.
 
After Michael Voss' conversion off a step put the Lions up two straight goals to one, Richmond kicked the next three majors - but missed as many opportunities as they made use of.

The net result was the Lions roaring back into the contest on the back of five consecutive inside 50s and the last four goals of the first term.

With Nigel Lappin providing plenty of run with seven disposals for the quarter and Jason Akermanis returning from an early ankle injury scare in typically dynamic fashion, the Lions stretched the Tigers across the field - and Ashley McGrath was the chief beneficiary.

McGrath, who turned 22 on Friday, booted the Lions' first goal and twice split the big sticks from 50m to match his goal-haul from last week's win over Adelaide inside the first 30 minutes.

The Tigers re-grouped in term two and, while the Lions momentarily stretched their advantage on the back of successive goals by Michael Voss and Simon Black, Terry Wallace's team was soon right back in the mix.

Matthew Richardson roamed far and wide from his usual station in the forward line and Richmond ended the first half with goals from the lively Jay Schulz and Kayne Pettifer to enter half-time only two points in arrears.

The third stanza was one of missed chances for both teams, with Brown, who was giving Lions youngster Jed Adcock the runaround, a particularly guilty party.

Two goals from Richardson within the space of a minute gave Richmond their first lead since the opening quarter but a great effort from the recalled Anthony Corrie put the Lions up by two-points to set up the nail-biting last quarter.

For Richmond, Shane Tuck was simply outstanding with 30 touches, six hard-ball gets, six clearances and five inside 50s. Those numbers were almost matched by his captain Kane Johnson, while Mark Coughlan had 11 disposals in the first quarter to finish with 28 for the match.

Tim Notting was the Lions' leading possession-winner with 27 but he struggled to hit targets and it was left to the usual suspects of Voss, Akermanis and Simon Black to provide most of the home team's cutting edge.

McGrath, who finished the match limping after a kick to the lower leg, kicked 5.1 to be the Lions' most effective forward - with Jonathan Brown failing to have his usual impact on the contest.

Both teams will exit the game with injury worries, with Richmond youngster Richard Tambling appearing to tear a hamstring in the last term and Lions pairing Chris Scott and Mal Michael also looking to have struck hamstring trouble.

The Tigers' 2004 best-and-fairest Joel Bowden left the ground in the third quarter after a head clash with Chris Hyde - ironically, Hyde was making a comeback from a horrific head clash injury of his own - and did not return.

I thought we would never see the Gas back to his best considering his injury and the ruthless criticism he copped last year.  He was outstanding last night and the man deserves much respect for working his way back to form

Oh man I'm so tired

What a game.  Thought I'd pass out with all the excitement.  We should have easily won that if it wasn't for shocking kicking.  Brisbane weren't going to be pushovers, however it was good to see Bradshaw and Brown quite (well done Graham).  Couldn't believe my eyes (get out the binoculars) to see Richo playing deep in defence.  Was caught up in the middle of the Tigers faithful.  However a couple of very feral Tigers even caused our own supporters to tell them to shut up.  Michael Roach was sitting not far from us. Great atmosphere.  Everyone was yelling out "siren" when we hit the front towards the end and the guy next to me and I kept looking at the clock, looking at the game and closing our eyes.    Shane Tuck, whilst racking up a lot of possessions, seemed to have lots of clangers as well.  A couple of dodgy umpiring decisions against us. 

As for Mini Me, she was very quiet in the first half - I was getting very worried and thought I'd have to leave early.  She picked up in the second half.  However, we ended up going to hospital to have it checked out and due to the lateness will have to go back this morning for x-rays to confirm whether her arm  is just badly bruised or if she's cracked a bone

Going by the telly, there seemed to be a lot of Richmond supporters and they sure made a lot of noise.  Not that it takes a lot of Richmond supporters to make a lot of noise.

There was one section behind the goals where the cheer squad was that seemed to be nearly all Richmond supporters.

On "The Fifth Quarter" on channel 10, they showed Shane Tuck taking his signed footy over to this group of supporters behind the goals.  Apart from the high fives, they hugged him and didn't seem like they were going to let him go.  It was a funny, but memorable, sight.

Tell me about it Julz - I got back to Melbourne about 11.30 this morning but have slept most of the afternoon because I was stuffed

Went to the after match function and then got back to the hotel around midnight, was so wired I couldn't sleep so I watched the FA cup thinking that would send me to sleep. It didn't  but when I flicked over to Rage on the ABC and Jimi Hendrix was setting his guitar on fire that did the trick

  MT I was going to SMS you from the Pre-match I was at to tell you about Graham myself but I got side tracked when the Trivia game started

Just on Graham - he was sensational last night and has been good for us all year. Now before you all laugh at me he has been good because each week he has had a specific role - mainly as a "pinch-hitter" off the bench and he has done exactly what he has been required to do  ( am sure your source could confimr that MT )
