January 18, 2013 RICHMOND footballer Robin Nahas has been involved in a dramatic chase and citizen's arrest in the streets of Prahran.
Nahas was relaxing with a female friend at a Chapel St cafe when a thief on a bicycle snatched the woman's handbag.
The Herald Sun has been told the fleet-footed Nahas and his friend gave chase as his quarry pedalled away.
The pursuit went past where Nahas had parked his car, so the footballer jumped behind the wheel to stay on the rider's tail.
The Herald Sun understands the cyclist then started to ride through lanes to shake off Nahas.
But the Tiger goalsneak then jumped from the vehicle and resumed the pursuit on foot.
After covering about 1km, the chase wound up in Medley St.
It was there that the alleged thief was knocked from his bike by the victim.
Nahas arrived moments later and detained the man until police arrived.
Locals and business operators were shocked by the incident. One shopkeeper heard a woman scream and saw people scurry as the cyclist took off.
"It was pretty bad; I'm glad they caught up with him," he said.
Another woman said the thief bit off more than he could chew.
"He didn't expect to be ripping off an AFL footballer," she said. "He picked the wrong person."
Victoria Police confirmed a 42-year-old St Kilda man had been arrested in connection with an alleged bag-snatch incident in Chapel St, Prahran, yesterday.
He has been released and is expected to be charged on summons with theft-related offences.
