Casey said alot without saying anything new really.

He was in for the long haul. Said the position requires a large amount of time but he enjoyed doing it.

He said to be successful we needed the best coaches and recruiters. Miller will be organizing the set-up and process of deciding who'll be the coach next year. Sheedy who was a guest panelist asked how many coaches has Miller appointed. Casey replied that Miller will be on the selection committee but won't be the only one making the final decision. Miller will discuss this process with the board at the Tuesday night board meeting.

Casey said the Club is in no rush to appoint the new board members. Said the positions still had 2-3 years to run before they were up for re-election and as there were still 7 people on the board there's no urgency. He said he was wading through 40 applicants. Wanted to use them all in some way but if a couple stood out they would be obvious appointments for the board. Other problems needed addressing more urgently than a couple of extra people on the board.

Asked how the Club could lose $2 mill, Casey said out of a total budget of $20 mill, if you plan a 5% increase in some areas but there is in fact a 5% fall (mostly from lower than predicted revenue from corporate and gaming areas) that's 10% = $2 mill. He said it wasn't as black and white as that but the fall was spread over a number of areas. They're basically going through the books looking to minimize the loss.

When asked about the possibly of losing blockbuster status next year, he said the Club suffered from poor on-field results. If was up to the Club to fix that. He said Richmond fans fill out stadiums when the side is winning. However they have fallen away.

On Ian Campbell they interviewed over videophone to the U.S.A. not in person. His appointment was a mistake. They have spoken to Leighton Wood and some others. They have gone through the first interview stage. Will decide on second inteviews at the Tuesday night board meeting.

Sheedy was playing the old I've got the offer from Essendon but I'll make a decision in a week, month when it's the right time.

RICHMOND will start moves this week on the appointment of a coach for 2005.

Club president Clinton Casey said yesterday football department boss Greg Miller would brief the directors at a board meeting on Tuesday.

Casey said Miller would recommend the process that the club should take on a coaching appointment for next season.

"He will recommend to the board how we go forward in the review of what we do for next year, whether that be Danny (Frawley) or, if there were to be a change," Casey told 3AW yesterday.

"So next week we should have an indication from Greg and if we agree with that, it will be the process that we follow."

He said Miller would recommend potential members for a sub-committee that would review the coaching position.

Casey said the club had to take full responsibility for the appointment of chief executive Ian Campbell, even though he had been referred to the club by the AFL.

He admitted the Tigers had appointed Campbell, who announced his resignation last week, without interviewing him face-to-face.

"But we had a sub-committee and it was probably done via a television link-up to the other side of the world," Casey said.

"And there is no doubt being out of Australia for 20 years and not probably understanding the corporate marketplace here was a definite disadvantage (for Campbell).

"Like I say to my staff, when you are trying to make changes and you make a mistake, I mean, it might be tolerated once, but it won't be tolerated twice."

Casey said the Tigers met Campbell twice on video link-up in the US. A consulting group then checked his references before he was appointed.

He said Leighton Wood was in the running for the chief executive's position and that the board would meet on Tuesday night to discuss the candidates so an appointment could be made "sooner rather than later".

Casey, who confirmed he would remain at Punt Rd long term, said he had a file of about 40 people who had applied for two vacant positions on the club's board, and that he planned to set up an advisory committee to assess the skills of all the applicants.

"If one or two people stand up as outstanding candidates, which I'm sure they will, then we will fill those positions," Casey said.

Casey said Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy was still on the club's wish list – if the Tigers did not have a coach at the end of the season and Sheedy did not have a job.

Sheedy, who has been offered a new deal by the Bombers, said yesterday he would make a decision at the appropriate time.
