Robbo's Latest Offering
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:54:42 AM »
Interesting article by Robbo today about an anonymous player who was a star junior (ding), who seemed glad to be delisted (ding), because of a drug culture at the club (ding) and no one seems to care because he was a fringe player (ding).
This player's father claims that "If you are in the top 22, they won't delist you if you come with a syringe hanging out of your arm"

Ding

*I am not suggesting that this article is about any ex RFC players- I am merely pointing out that there are some similarities to many cases, and I hope that he hasn't been affected by any of the same symptoms that this poor young fellow has, whoever he may be.

**And this may be a case of the pot calling the kettle black, but I think Robbo is being very mischievous with this piece. RFC needs to brace itself imo with some of the quotes in this article.

Cheers mate. Doubt it's an ex RFC guy, no way was he in the AIS. Surely. Am sure we could figure out who it is though if someone posted the delisted names from all Melbourne clubs apart from Collingwood

Let's not even use a players name if even you are "not suggesting it is said player", though I appreciate the point you are making

Call me heavy handed but as was pointed out the other day by Mr OE just after Xmas we had a major issue with a former AFL player (non RFC) regarding defamatory comments.

We had to spend considerable time sorting it out and it was extremely serious; extremely

We will not be taking any chances in the future we cannot afford too

With the reference to 'best 22', it makes me think it is a side that plays regular finals.

We don't have a best 22 yet, spots 16-22 aren't cemented in.
And you may not think I care for you

"Mick didn't take drugs until last year."

"It's funny, but he went to an AFL club with that attitude and within 12 months he's out there taking drugs."

2 year player?

It's not a Richmond player, if that eases your minds.   ;D

Probably best if we don't speculate who the player was. It is a sad story that players would choose drugs or alcohol over AFL.

There are potential draftees out there who train so hard to play AFL and are as discipline as discipline can be who have the mental strength to play AFL who may never get drafted.

I believe that clubs will look into personal lifestyle when recruiting and will not draft players with such issues as it will be seen as a risk.

I used to believe, "who cares, if they can play football, don't care what they are like or do!"

So many stories of "talented" AFL players who have an off field issue.

In my opinion, I believe clubs will look more closely at players "off field" issues and will be more vigilant.

Penalties to clubs and the negative media towards clubs may pressure clubs to say, "enough is enough and is protecting one player good for the club's image?"
