I often forget he's even around until he makes his usual cameo on the injury list.

Who would you rather have in the team next week Grimes or Astbury? On recent form Astbury has him imo.

Mmmm but Grimes most recent game > any of Astburys. Finally coming into some sort of form that Astbury can't match

Grimes

Astbury is important as the first covering key back.

The back line Almost set in stone
 Chaplin. Grimes. Morris.
Houli. Rance. Deledio/Vlastuin/Pettard

Pettard is the only obvious weak link. I wouldn't mind seeing us play four falls with astbury if possible

Astbury is a great 4th defender for us to have as back-up as we know he can come in and play a role when needed. But Grimes game on the weekend was the Grimes that we all love. Was sensational.  :clapping

No brainer for mine

Has to be Grimes, plays on instinct, has more pace and can play on a tall or a runner and has a lot more footy smarts.

Astbury is too slow in the pace & reaction stakes IMHO.

And TBH it's a bit like the Maric/Big O/Vickery issue, don't think we can or will play both Astbury and Grimes, one has to miss out and it will be Astbury; rightly again IMO.

And similar to the Vickery situation, Grimes is a "non negotiable" (read favourite) at the selection table and that means if he is fit, he plays
"Oh yes I am a dreamer, I still see us flying high!"

from the song "Don't Walk Away" by Pat Benatar 1988 (Wide Awake In Dreamland)

Astbury gets swallowed up in the heat of a final, Grimes has gradually improved each week.....
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Grimes. Has more pace and considerably more football smarts than Astbury.

In injury news, star forward Jack Riewoldt has needed minor knee surgery that won’t affect his return in late November.

Small forward Jake King also needed toe surgery but will make a swift recovery after surgeries to his foot, wrist and knee in the previous off-season.

Yeah, Jack's knee is fine. Small loose body removed, nothing major. Conca's injury a little worse than first thought but not as bad as Grimes' one.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.
