This has been Griffs first full preseason since being at the club.

Speaking of which, did anyone else notice he had no strapping on his shoulders what so ever! A good sign IMO.....

The club finally telling him to grow a pair and harden up.  :shh

Benny, if you're going to play your forward opponent from behind you can't be continually flat-footed 5-10m off your man when he's leading. Hampson is mobile for his size but hardly Usain Bolt on the lead.

I do like using Griffs as part of the kick-in rotations. Handy to have a bloke who can belt it well outside the defensive 50 to try and counter any opposition press.

Did Big Ben win a single contest last night?  Even when spoiling, he didn't seem able to punch the ball clear of the pack.

Maybe 1 or 2 but that one in the square that Hampson took the mark but thankfully Rance got the free for being blocked summed up his night's spoiling efforts I thought

Hampton is one of the quickest big blokes and marked almost everything he lead for. I wondered how Grimes would go instead. Would give away height and size, but would have spoiled more than half of those leading marks. At least we're not going to come across across many forward lines that big.

Not much Griff could have done with most of Hampson's marks. Hampson was leading well and marked the ball at the highest point just about every time. Hands out in front = Griff had no chance.

Provided some really good contests late in the game.

He is still very inexperienced as a defender. Hampson was playing at his best last night when it came to marking. In that form he would have beaten most defenders in marking contests.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Being harshly judged for a main or his size and youth.

Hampson is a massive gimp. Nup. A performance like that means you play reserves next week by default. You blokes are basically saying all you have to do is lead and stick the mits out. Griff hasn't got much clue as a defender, IMO.

I am sure a fit grimes would have towled hampson up.Dylans closing speed would have ensured this giant wouldnt have taken some of those marks.Big ben was reacting way too slowly.I hope with experience and game time this part of his game will be rectified

He doesn't have the pace he needs to be sagging off as much as he does.

Has a long way to go does Benny but he's still young and learning the art of defense. He has a stack of time on his side.

A guy of his size and a guy of his kicking doesn't grow on trees.

Hampson was marking well but I'd take Griffiths before Hampson every day of the week.
