Tiges vs Dees
« on: May 24, 2005, 04:38:24 AM »
Although we are in great form and have plenty of self-belief and confidence this is going to be a hard ask with Hall and now Joel out of our backline. Melbourne has a strong forward line now with Neitz, Miller (back this week), Robertson, Davey and Yze.

Stafford and Jackson look the obvious replacements IMO for Joel and Tambling although we could be a bit too tall with Sarge as well.

I'd go with these matchups:

Gaspar - Neitz
Jackson - Yze
Kellaway - Robertson
Newman - Davey
Shulz - Miller
Graham - Holland

The only matchup that worries me is Jackson on Yze. But what are our alternatives? Pettifer? Chaffey? Meyer?

Chaffey might take Yze as he could follow Yze into the midfield or into Melbourne's forward line.

I reckon Miller will end up in the backlines on one of our tall forwards.  They are still missing Rivers due to suspension and Bell is also out with injury.  Think our forwards need to really capitalise on this and kick a winning score.  Richo hopefully should have a field day.

Their backline is their weakness as they found out late last year. Nicholson is too slow 1-on-1 and Richo has been too good for Ferguson as well in the past so yeah WT I'd reckon if their speedy midfield doesn't get on top they'll be forced to use Miller in their backline which is a win for us.

Definetly would be a win for us.  They do have a dangerous and unpredictable side however and those sort of sides always worry me.

Wouldn't be surprised if Cog's and Tuck were tagged this week.
Richo is due for a bag if his knee holds up.

Lost count how many articles there were about the Tiges today ... 10 ... 11 ... 12  :gobdrop  :gobdrop

Ah humm ...and which club in Melbourne sells the papers Eddie?!  :lol  :thumbsup. We even had 3 articles to ourselves in the nationwide The Australian!

Still even after 4 straight wins the H-Sun "experts" won't tip us. 2 for and 16 against  ::). The Age has 8-10. Keep underrating us at your own peril  :thumbsup.

But of course, no-one is tipping Richmond again this week.  I am convinced Roger Merrett hates us as does Jason Dunstall.  Cheers to John Barnes to tipping us and Wayne Schwass has been very complimentary.  The rest are gooses (geese?) and will eat their words.

What ar people's thoughts on giving Lids a defensive role this week, and playing him on Davey, leaving Newman to take either Robertson or Yze?
My parents bought me a Richmond jumper and enrolled me in a junior footy clinic in 1981...look at me now.
