Tigers unable to stop rampant Pies

RICHMOND coach Damien Hardwick admits he ran out of options, as Travis Cloke went on a seven goal rampage at the MCG on Saturday.

With just three points separating the sides at half time, Cloke swung the momentum Collingwood's way with three quick goals after the main change.

When Cloke took an important mark over his opponent in Alex Rance, Hardwick shifted Troy Chaplin onto the Magpie.

But that proved to be a short-term fix, after Chaplin copped a knock to the head from teammate Chris Knights.

"We gave Rancey first crack at it, then Chappy, and then Chappy obviously went off injured, so we sort of lacked a few options there," Hardwick said.

"Look he's a big boy, he's a great player. He was just too good on the day."

That third term was Richmond's undoing.

Collingwood scored eight goals before the Tigers could respond, and by then, the game had been blown wide open.

In a staggering statistic, the Tigers managed just four tackles for the entire quarter.

Captain Trent Cotchin led the way with 27 touches, but with the Magpies running riot, he was forced to tinker with the midfield set-up.

"We tried a few things," Cotchin said.

"We actually brought Jack (Riewoldt) into the middle for one (bounce).

"It worked, but it was probably just our intensity and effort to get to the contest once the ball was won.

"We let ourselves down in the spread to the next contest."

The Tigers succumbed, going down by 34 points.

They now face a trip west to take on Fremantle at Patersons Stadium.

due to telstra not being able to deliver the service i pay for  :banghead, i was listening to the radio early in the third. the commentators called it as Chaplin himself making the change, after cloke's third goal.

I'm glad you said that Al, that's how I saw it too.
Cloke kicked a goal, and Rance was heading back to Cloke and Chaplin called to Rance, said a few words and then they swapped. Hardwick is a clown.. I don't care if Rance asked for the job on Cloke, last time I looked Dimma is coach, so coach. You recruit Chaplin the play on the gorillas, do it!
Also Hardwick said they ran out of options for Cloke, well f!?k me, what about Grimmes. Grimmes wouldn't have try to out muscle him like Rance, he would have played off him by a couple of meters and jumped over the top and spoil- sounds like something Grimmes is good at??

Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said the Tigers had struggled to lay hands on the ball when Collingwood had its decisive third term run-on. ''We just couldn't get our hands on the ball. Situation was Collingwood were winning the ball, running hard forward and we just couldn't at any stage stop that momentum. You know, we tried a number of things, we just couldn't manage to stabilise it.

''The things we went into the game trying to achieve, we didn't achieve one of them, sorry apart from centre bounce. There was a number of areas we tried to deny Collingwood, none of those worked, offensively we tried to do some things, none of those worked.

''Any time you give up seven or eight goals in a quarter, you know, it's game over.''

Hardwick called Cloke a ''big problem'' - ''we gave Rancey [Alex Rance] first crack at it, then Chappy [Troy Chaplin], and then Chappy obviously went off injured, so we sort of lacked a few options there. And look he's a big boy, he's a great player, just was too good on the day. Alex will bounce back, as will Troy.''
