I still remember sitting in the MCG on that Prelim Final day in 1973 when Hart come on in the 3rd quarter.  We were shot at that stage and the roar from the crowd when he ran on was huge, all of a sudden there was an electric charge went around the ground and you just sensed things would change.  When he kicked his first goal almost immediately you knew then that we were going to win - that's just how it always was back in those days - a spark of some sort and here we go again, very much like Geelong do nowadays.

It is even greater to know he made it to the function.

I believe the HoF function is being shown on Fox Footy tonight at 9.30pm

You're lucky Smokes. I was lying in Box Hill hospital at the time after having being hit at point-blank range by a discus at my school sports, which left my eye socket fractured in four places. I had to plead with the nurse to let me keep listening to the radio, as she felt it was upsetting me too much when Collingwood was up by 46 points at half time. She relented, Royce came on with a dodgy knee and won the game, and the rest of the season, as they say, is history.

LOL how the actual stuff did that happen Rolls

We were standing on a concrete circle with a line painted down the middle. The discus thrower was on one side of the line, and all the spectators, including myself, were on the other. The only trouble was, the girl throwing it (yes, it was a girl, Lucy-Anne Noontil), spun round and round to pick up momentum like they do at the Olympics, became discombobulated, and turned around and fired it over the "safety" line straight at the spectators, where I was lucky enough to stop it with my face.
I was also lucky enough not to be knocked out cold (goody), and had the pleasure of being conscious all the way to the hospital in the back of the maths teacher's van.

Actually just a fraction of an inch above my right eye, otherwise it would have. Also an inch below my temple, in which case there would be no RollsRoyce. It's basically the fourth time I have cheated death. But just remember duckies everybody gets got (that's a lyric from the new David Bowie album).
