Summary

* Pretty important win against Eagles. 5-5 would've been under the pump. 6-4 gives a good platform for the 2nd half.

* No easy games but winnable games in the next 6 weeks. Important today from that perspective and because we're playing a side we're competing against for a top 8 place.

* Development of where the team is at. Slowly becoming a side that plays over 4 quarters. To be a top side need that consistency. Not quite there yet but we are getting there. Eagles game best 4 quarter effort. Play that kind of footy and you will make the finals.

* If we didn't make the finals? If you lose 3 best players to knee injuries then out of coach's control. We expect to play finals though.

* Journey under Dimma - 65 games avg vs Carlton r1 2012; 80 by r1 2013. Now it's up to 90. Should be 100 by end of season. Rewards are now coming from the recruiting efforts over the past 4-5 years.

* Favourite players - Grimes. Admired the way he goes about his footy; Lids - matured as a leader, wasn't sure he would become that but he has. Thinks he gets bagged unfairly. Has won us games. Unfairly criticized about not breaking a tag as the media doesn't understand his role which may be a run with role or some specific role. Gets hardly marked does Brett.

* Dusty - developing as he becomes an adult; game developing as well as his tank improves and the defensive side of his game is improving ( 6 tackles against Eagles and marked Priddis well).

* Feel for McLardy as he's been there himself. Unity is No.1 in any football club. Prez and 8 other board members need to be unified and then right through the CEO and rest of the football club.

* Prez need heart and soul in the direction of the footy club. March says he's now the most dispassionate person on gameday but he care about the direction of where we are heading as a club.

* Stepping down at the end of season (Oct). Last function will be B&F. New Prez will come from board - O'Shannessy, Speed or Dalton. Full board decision.

* Club in good shape. We just had a board meeting and Club is now debt free for first time in 10 years  :thumbsup.

* Flabbergasted by Eddie and Newbolt's comments to give Melbourne $2 million. Already an inflationary in football. What you need instead is good leadership and management. Don't understand how giving out handouts fixes up Melbourne's problem.

* Equalisation with Sydney's salary cap is an issue. Swans forecast to make a loss yet were able to buy a player for $800k. If that was a Melbourne club we would be hauled before the AFL. There's a issue with the expansion clubs and March included Sydney in that.

* 18 clubs isn't too many as long as the game is developed in its entirety (eg: junior development to sustain 18 teams).

* March is going to Cairns to cheer us on.

Good on you March for telling it like it is. I can't believe Eddie is keen for Melbourne to receive more cash and even suggesting they get to increase their salary cap after he has been moaning for years about Sydney. I didn't give a toss about salary caps in the past because players still needed to be traded, but with free agency everyone must be equal. It's not fair when a situation can occur when club can successfully negotiate pay cuts with players and do everything in every way possible to structure their TPP to keep a marquee player but lose them through restrictive free agency for no other reason than another club is allowed to spend more money.

Yeah that's all good. I just remember WP banging on with his accountant terms how important it was to wipe off our bottom line. Would be awesome to spend that money on footy and still bank some cash  :cheers

Debt free means 2 things

1/ no more interest payments and

2/ more cash because you're not paying out the interest or the principal repayments

Impact on profit? Would think and I would hope it won't impact at all (yes I mean nil change in profit) because I would want them to be allocating that saving somewhere else eg increase in footy dept spend

What I mean is if the interest bill (expense) was say $100k a year I would want to see that $100k moved to the footy dept for them to spend. The overall expense is the same just it is being spent somewhere else

That's great news given free agency and the need to increase in the footy department. :thumbsup

Still 4.5 months until the end of the financial footy year. If we're already debt free (well done RFC  :clapping ) then presumably our revenues this year are significantly up across the board - eg: memberships, sponsorships, gates etc ...

going off topic a tad, but sydney have a clear advantage over their rivals in terms of free agency bargaining.

Im not sure what their salary cap concession actually is, but for arguments sake lets say it is 10%

that means that in a free agency bidding war they can bid 10% higher than a rival, but in reality it is an equal bid, or should be treated that way, anyways.

It gives them a clear advantage.
