Yep Ch 10 news said Hilton looks like playing his first game back after his knee. Hope we're not taking into the game someone who is lacking match fitness. Last chance for Rory.

Stafford trained well also and also looks like he'll be back. Joel is a certainty to play.

i have been a big rap 4 rory, he has got some good qualities about him and plenty of mongrel. i know he probably isnt totally match fit but i guess plying forward pocket , ff and off the benche its not a matter of being fit, just a matter of being precise with his skills. if he  only gets th eball 6 times and sets up 5 goals he has done a damn good job

This is his chance no doubt - Rory would play 1 good game and then go missing. TW has changed a few players fortunes around and if Rory can show close to 100% of what he is capable of with the chances he gets he could be a valuable contributor to our side - He is still only 26 ? and has that bit of mongrel about him when he gets fired up. Spud obviously wasn't the greatest motivator around, TW seems to be getting close to if not the best out of everyone - hope he comes good otherwise - SEE YA  :thumbsup

Agree CUB.

It's been a long time between drinks for Rory.  His last good year was in 2001 as well when it was the only time in his 7 years at RFC that he got anywhere near playing 22 games in one year. Rory's only played 26 out of our last 76 matches.

I reckon to play him this week would be a massive risk - lacking match fitness. As posted on another thread - against a team like the Eagles you need blokes who can run all day. Hilton may not be able to do that and that makes it risky.

Gotta say I don't like the idea at all

i really dont see a great problem with it. Sure he hasnt set the world on fire in the two's but he does have the ability.

Remember back a few seasons ago, Rory was very handy for us in the forward line and very hard to match up on with marking overhead being a strength.

Obvously Terry had this in mind for him at the end of last year otherwise he would be playing back at Wodonga. We have nothing to lose, theres isnt much better to bring in for that forward pocket type position.

Lets see if Rory can take his final chance under Wallace and make something of it.

Has shown he has ability, just not the necessary level of commitment.  Seeing as he’s on the list then I guess TW has to give him a go at some stage and, who knows, it could be the opportunity he needs.  But I’m with WP on this one, huge call to play him against a team like the Eagles, or any AFL team for that matter.

If he hasn’t been exposed by some of the younger players on our list by now then he soon will be, unless he’s had a huge improvement in his attitude, work ethic and work rate.  Otherwise he couldn’t possibly be part of the team beyond this season.  Probably the small fact that he has a contract has kept him on the list till now.  Happy to be proven wrong, but the game seems to have passed him by, and in reality it probably did a few seasons ago.

Maybe it’s just a perception thing, but there would be those out there who would give anything to have the opportunity he’s had and he just seems to have taken it for granted.

When Rory doesn't show bit of mongruel he's about as effective at AFL level as Adam Houlihan. However when he has put his body on the line he's got injured such as when he got cleaned up backing back into Neitz on a lead. Wallace would indeed be a miracle worker if he could transform Hilton's footy career around as Rory typifies the consistently inconsistent types we've had the past 10 years that won't win us a premiership.

his 7 years at RFC

Rory's only played 26 out of our last 76 matches.

I just fell out of my seat. Your telling me we have had this idiot at our club for 7 years? And people wonder why we havent made the finals in so long. I personally would prefer to use Campo or Petts out of the forward line and bring in Raines to run the wings.....

If anything, wait a week until we play North and bring him in then when he might be better suited.

This year is his 7th at the Tigers to be precise.

1998 November National Draft - Traded by Brisbane for Richmond's 24th draft selection (David Wojcinski).

Only other remaining Tigers from the 98 draft are Ray Hall who was pick 79 and Tivs was elevated from our rookie list.

This the same draft we traded away our number 8 pick (Jude Bolton) for Bidders. So we gave away our first two picks for Hilton and Biddiscombe. We can thank the Geisch for that one  :scream.

He was moving Ok against the bullants a month ago and his stats have been good since then.
He has the body strength to fill in up forward.
TW said the match committee would be appraising the season at the break
Now is his chance to stand up and be counted or it's D.C.B.N.Y.

Boots and all, Tiger Hilton makes his comeback
By Len Johnson
The Age
June 3, 2005

Rory Hilton, who tossed his boots away in frustration after a season-ending knee injury last year, will pull on a new pair for the game against West Coast tomorrow after Richmond last night selected him for his comeback game.

Hilton tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Essendon in round 15 last year. His dismay was understandable. It was the tough utility's third consecutive season ended by a major injury.

Richmond coach Terry Wallace said Nathan Brown's bad break had provided an opportunity for Hilton, and others, to step up. But the coach said he had told Hilton that he did not expect much from him early. "I told him the first half of the year would be a pre-season for him," Wallace said last night, "and then we would take a good look at him and see if he had a future with the club."
