RICHMOND

The Tigers seem more intent on player retention than going after any big fish, with Dustin Martin, Jack Riewoldt and Reece Conca all unsigned.

As recently as yesterday they believed all three would stay, but no one at Punt Rd will truly breathe a sigh of relief until their managers finish playing hard ball over those extra few dollars.

The two talls most would identify as having currency are Ben Griffiths and David Astbury given they are both reasonably high picks who haven't cemented spots in the line-up yet.

Griffiths has been playing VFL, but Astbury has been injured.

Yet there is still the chance for either to play as the third tall at either end. Surely they will stay.

The future of Robbie Nahas is more clouded. The 25-year-old has played only five games for three goals, some as the sub.

Coming off 22 games the previous year it has been a fall from grace that others might identify.

Jake Batchelor looks to be the prototype as a third tall - he kicks it well and can play tall and small. But his error rate recently saw him dropped, and if Dylan Grimes returns from injury his opportunities might diminish.
